Cluster...WIW and $$$?

I meant untouched housing due the supports for the Radio pots, which are tipically also cut when cutting the cluster for modern stereos, but allways talking about the correct hosuing for tach/clock

HOWEVER is also true you can MODIFY a basic cluster assembly to fit a tach/clock. The cluster housings gets all the cast done for both kind of gauges setups, then cut to the assembly will get.

I have got 3 clock clusters and everyone got the molds for the basic cluster setup, just don't cut for the basic cluster gauges location

WOW!!! stunning!!!

that could be on high dollars rate ( specially if tach works ), even without bezel and switches/knobs.

you can use your ones though

Nacho- I have my old knobs and switches, which are NEW that I sourced from someone who had NOS ones. All gauges works as the guy had them gone through and he will give me a receipt of the work done to them. Guess he had an extra one that was going in another car but he sold the car and now wants to sell the pieces that he has left from it.

ok... well... I think could be, as mentioned on US$500-600 rate being the absence of bezel at least... dunno if the rest of the crowd is agreed.

But of course, would be better get it cheaper as posible LOL

looks like a clock cluster that someone put a tach in the the hole were the clock adjuster is open,on a tach one there would be a plug there.

Clock and tach cluster used the same housing. The hole in the lens was standard and didn't matter if there was either one in the hole

a real tach cluster has a plug in it not a open hole where the clock setting arm would be,and yes they use the same housing but different lense for clock and tach

He talks about the lenses mask.

We got a discussion about that long time ago on 1971-1974dodgecharger.com forum. As far I can tell the lense got a plug for the hole when it was not a clock cluster but tach.

Basic Rallye cluster is indeed a diff monster, but I don't think they built diff lenses mask for tach and for clock just for the hole.

Standard clusters in fact got ALL a hole for the optional clock on them no matter if got the clock or not from factory

The plug for the hole is removable and usually is dryed up after all these years and breaks if you try to remove it. Maybe was what happened here while cleaning or polishing the lenses.

I forgot about the plug. Guess this one is missing it but I'm not so concerned about it. If I get it, maybe I'll try to source one but that will probably be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Or come up with something to put in its place

i paid 400 for one similar to that except
it had the clock plug and a good woodgrain bezel and also the harness..
the harness did need work it had a broken plug on it.
for what you have pictured there, i would probably offer 300 or so.

i have seen the lense itself for sale i might have an extra

Tor-Red, I am going through the exact same thing right now. I found a pretty clean cluster with a clock on EBay for 175 shipped. I then had to pay for the tach and that was an additional $200 and I went ahead and got replacement decals for another $50. Overall with shipping I am in it for $400 so if you can get an original like this one in that price range, I would jump on it.

If you do go the aftermarket tach route, just know like someone else said that it goes to 80 and not 70. Another thing you have to be careful of is quality. I bought mine from Classic and when I got it, it had bubbles, scrapes, and the decal was already peeling off. The needle also doesn't look like factory. You can check my previous wtb post as I put a picture there. I was looking for a tach myself before I bought the aftermarket one. I sent it back to classic and talked to the supplier himself and he said he didnt know why it was so beat up. I wanted to give it another chance as you won't be able to see small blemishes once its in the cluster so I called Classic back and they are going to send me a new one. The guy on there said he would have the warehouse pull it and check several and ship out the best one. I thought that was pretty awesome and will post a picture on Wednesday when it comes in. There is only one guy making them that supplies all the retailers so it doesn't matter where you buy it from but you can get it for 185 from classic with a discount if you find a cluster with a clock.

Hope this helps!

$400 total for the cluster. I figured at least that much but what are you going to do with it? Have all of the gauges restored or just put it in and go? This cluster is original, with tach, AND was completely rebuilt and re-calibrated. So with that, have to figure the price of the cluster AND the price you would have to pay to have this one rebuilt/re-calibrated also. If it wasn't re-calibrated and or rebuilt, I'd still send them in to have it done. It is ready to drop in and go. Now, we are haggling on a price. Most of the companies that do these clusters are so back logged, some as far as at least November, as I was thinking of sending mine in (without tach) until I found this one.

no wood grain ? Nice shape looking to buy or sell?

I wanted to give an update on the second tach I received from Classic Ind. The second one was MUCH better and looks great when its in place. If you go this route, I would just have them check the tachometer before sending it out.

Do you have a P/N or link to it so I can see it? I think there are a few places that are selling a tach, if my memory is correct. As far as the cluster I'm interested in, don't know now. I emailed the guy on Monday and he hasn't responded. With that, I don't know if he sold it or has a change of his mind now or what.

I'd like to have a factory or factory looking tach in the cluster. Not really fond of having a tach mounted to the column or somewhere else. Just might try to look for one or one with a clock and swap it out. Either way, I'd also want to have all the gauges go through for a peace of mind

I agrre with you 100% on the external tach. I get why people do it but its kind of tachy to me! (Pun intended) Mine had a clock in it so I bought the tach. Just found out my ammeter is bad so I had to buy a new one :-/. Here is a picture of my new tachometer though. I am in the process of restoring the cluster itself.

I bought some decals too. They make both but I got the clock in case I ever want to go with it.
