hi all, im new to this site, and looking for advise on some shorty headers for my 383 68 satellite with power steering.its a mild 383.bored .040,452 heads planed .025,steel shim gasket,xe 268h cam, performer rpm intake,750 holley vaccum secondary, and car has 3.23 gears/with stock converter.looking to keep torque on the bottom end, and not have to smash them with a bfh to make them fit.any input would be much appreciated.pics and part #s would also help a bunch.thanks in advance!!! brian.

Get some TTI headers. Buy once, cry once!!

I went with the Schumacher Tri Y short tube headers. They installed with no problems , didn't have to jack up the engine ect, My 67 is a 383, column shift auto with power steering I did have to R & R the shift linkage and starter. Full size starter will work with them {I used a heat wrap though}. Didn't have to hammer or dent anything. http://engine-swaps.com/Pages/ProductsType/BRB_Headers.html
Like 5.7 posted the TTIs are a good choice also.

Hedman makes a shorty header that makes a few HP over the factory Magnum manifolds BUT full length headers make more power at all rpm ranges. A 1 3/4" header works well on stock or mildly upgraded big block engines. An 1 7/8" header is more beneficial if you are getting near 400 HP. A little known guideline is to pick a header size to match the exhaust valve diameter. Most stock big blocks had a 1.78 exhaust valve, right?

love the look and fitment of the tri y.how much hp over stock manifolds?

Great work love the pics
i bouht this car and a rotted 68 road runner for $500 for the pair.after about $5,000 and 5,000 hours, it is all coming together now.i saw the old owner at a car show this summer, and he was blown away with how far it has come since he last saw it about 15 years ago.i should be in the low 9s or high 8s in the 1/8 mile next time out.

I am not sure about how much HP increase there is, I was replacing old non HP log style manifolds so Im pretty sure I have some benefit from them. They sure do sound better.

Tri-Y headers are supposed to be great for the street, delivering more mid range torque for passing and such.
