1987 shelby charger project

You don't count in what I said Mr. Crainum You're an equal opportunity hater. That's respectful. I was referring to general haters :p

Awe, thanks for the kind, loving words. And I love you too......................in a non-sexual way of course.

Same year and car that was our Father Son project when he was 17yrs. We had the black and silver one. Close ratio steering, close ratio five speed. Same size half axels. ( Passenger side uses a carrier bearing). Sweet car until he picked out a shopping center island. Both front wheels were into the doors. Tore the K frame, busted the transfer case, ect.

First thing you must buy is a boost guage and mount it on the left windshield pillar. Right in your face location. The 2.2 was known for sticking waste gates.

And for some reason, when we first got it on the road, the car had some shimmy when gaining speed. Found out all four of the factory wheels were slightly bent! Found four more and all was good.

Oh My! Back say from 1984-1996 I was a FWD Mopar Turbo fanatic! Went absolutely bonkers when the G Body came out in 1984 with that Daytona/Laser turbo...My dad at that time had a Plymouth Turismo (same as the Charger), and my mom had been through a few Plymouth Horizon's. My first was an 84 Laser, then I broke down and got an 86 Laser XT (really rare), then in 89 got a Daytona Shelby 5spd with the 2.2 TII engine. What a fun car!

The TII is a great engine. It has a Steel crank whereas the 2.5 never had one. I wish you luck in this build! I wish I kept my Daytona, but, some bad money decisions meant I sold it for cheap. Here's a few pics of my former G Body's!

Back in 87, I saw a photo in a mag of a flash red Daytona Shelby. So, I said I'm gettin' me one. Since then, I've had 3 & done all sorts of mods from nitrous to boost, etc. Great cars, I love 'em.

For someone that wants to get out of the project side of things, it looks like you are a little bit of a glutten for punishment....no?

Have fun with it, I had an '85 Shelby Charger back in '92. It was a blast to drive.

There's a guy in Canada w/ one that makes 480+ at the wheels and is about to break into the 9's @ over 144mph, still daily driveable. How far do you want to go? :D turbo-mopar is the best place to find info on any kind of build for these cars.

If you want to go fast, replace the transmission (555 or 568) or even the 523 with the new case) and get a set of slicks for the front. Wheel spin is no joke when you bump the boost up, 1st and 2nd gear will spin like they are on ice. If you can hook it, 13's are easy.
