1974 Satellite Sebring - WIW

Nice car, but Me personally I wouldn't offer over 10k. But you gotta go with what you want and what you desire. Can't put a price on something you want.

I was thinking the same thing myself. As much as I love the car I already have my 72 Roadrunner sucking me dry. I don't need another one! More than anything I was curious to know what others thought and put it out there in case someone here might really like it.

Well, it's cooler than a same-year runner, and looks better, too. If ya dig it and it's really nice, then I'd say yeah...it's worth it. But it ain't my money.

Thick that this one is available and may not be soon. I'm pretty sure you can negotiate it to something you can accept. But first.... Ask yourself if it's what you want and what would make you happy to pay to have it and you've got your staring point in the negotiation.

But before you start.... Check the firewall where it meets the windshield and the scuttle for the wipers for rust as this is a very expensive fix. Next check the lower fenders for rust. These and the rear filler between the rear fenders under the rear window are typical areas for rust. Check also for previous repairs in these areas.

The seats on this one look to have been recovered and whomever did it seems to have done a great job. Check the release buttons for the seats and the tracks to be sure they were reinstalled and assembled properly.

Finally think about what it would cost to get it to this level and go for it.

Looking at it again.... It has Goodyear eagle st's which have not been on the market for 10 years. So deduct the cost of new tires.

It's the only Sebring Plus I've ever seen with a column shifter, so that puts it into the scarce class. It's got a nice white interior, which is a plus, but a boring white exterior, which is not a plus. At least they're not green. :)

The owner would be much better served selling the car on ebay. A 74 Satellite is a serious impulse buy and CL isn't known for those. This car would get $15k if it were detailed and on a nice collector car lot, but on CL, as it sits, I would say about $7,000 tops... and he would be damn lucky to get it.

Bru- did you see that 73 RR 318 4 speed that only lasted on CL for 24 hours?

$7200 OBO and sounded serious on the OBO.

This IS an SSP with a400-4, but still even at top of the line trum and top of the line engine in solid #3 condition, I think the market is limited and way below a RR even with the base engine, unfortunately.

If the OP is concerned about "...money draining..." vintage automobiles.....flag goes up.

Wait a minute...boring white with "at least it's not" green interior.......

Beautiful car, would be a nice drivers as is. Price a little high. Big Block and air very appealing.

Here is some irony for ya. My step mom and her family is from Dickinson, ND (NOT SD as the ad says). It is a small farming community of about 15,000-20,000 people. I can see if she knows him and if still alive and if she has contact if need be. I don't know him myself

Good looking car for sure

I think they had a "lo po" 400-4 in 74, hence the "without duals" comment.

N code versus P code in the VIN IIRC

I'd say it's a pretty low-production number car. I think there were what, less than 400 Road Runners in 74 with the 400.....how many SSP could there have been?

If it's as honest as it looks (survivor status) then I'd say $14k isn't too far off the mark.

A Roadrunner has a hi po 400 4bbl, double exaust with hd suspension etc. This car has a lo po 400, 4bbl, single exaust, standard suspension etc. Not Worth RR price.

Looks to be a pretty nice car. I had on just like it back in the ninties

Really? My 71 sebring plus had a column shifter, thought they were common

Fair enough. But, my point was, if there were only 400 RR's with the big blocks, how many 400cuin Sebrings could there be? It's a case of numbers. In 74', big blocks were slim.

That car, and 73/74 B bodies in general, in good mechanical condition are really a very nice cars to drive. Even big block engines from that era dont make much power, but are still stronger than the small blocks.

I am sure that price is negotiable. So compare other cars for that amount of money against that car. I think you will find that you cant get much of a car thats in really nice condition for $15000. Maybe A bodys yet but not B Bodys. I dont think the price is out of line if the car is in good condition.

I disagree abut 400 not making much power.

They are bulletproof and torque monsters.

If you lined up a 71 383 and a 72 400 built the same in a same weight car, you see that there is not much difference. They get a tripple bad rap because 1- "smog era", 2- gross vs net HP rating, and 3- everyone loves and is familiar with a 383.

I had a 77 400 bone stock 2 bbl that ran like a scalded dog.

Did every bit as good as the factory 383 in my 70, before I rebuilt it and hopped it up.

You might be surprised how many 72/73/74 BB cars were made that weren't RRs.

I have the Dodge equivalent.

Not a rallye but a 400-4 SE with R/T style options.
