Whats up everyone. Im a newbie here and to mopars so please excuse me if this is a stupid/obvious question. Im planning on pulling the 318 poly out of my 65 coronet and dropping a 440 in. I have heard that mopars use different transmissions for big blocks than they do for small blocks. I just wanted to verify if this was true, and if so, what else is required to make this conversion? Is the crossmember located in the same spot and is the driveshaft the same? Also, what about the motor mounts? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the transmission bell housing is different for the big block.
I believe the K member is the same for all V-8s, but you will need bigblock motor mounts.
Driveshaft is the same also.
65 has a cable operated transmission, so if you want to keep the stock shifter you need a 65 transmission.

Drive shaft will work if the current trans is a 727. If it's a 904 you will need a trans and drive shaft. If you have a 65 727 you can swap the SB guts into a big block case. The old ball and trunion case will work as 65 BB cases are scarce. Get the proper trans and motor mount and brackets it will bolt in.

If you have power steering, you'll need a big block pump bracket. And of course the exhaust is different. If you use a taller intake (high rise, aluminum) you may need a longer accelerator cable. K member is the same.

6 cylinder cable will even reach a cross ram.

Is the trans mount different on small and big block autos? I know they're different between manual and automatics. I was thinking they were the same.

Been looking for a while and cant find a 65 BB trans. I found a place that sells a cable shift conversion kit but they are out of stock. Is it possible to make a newer 727 trans work with my stock column shifter?

I've done this. You will need to find a 66 column shift steering column and linkage. It's fairly straight forward and even the column wiring is the same. Feel free to ask any questions.

Not sure where in IL you are, but try calling John Cope (the 727 guru) at Cope Racing Transmissions in Lowell, IN (NW Indiana) and see if he has a correct year 727. I know he has a ton of cores on hand.

I have a BB 727 cable shift transmission for sale. $165 + the ride.

I'll post a picture later, with the #s that are on it. 62/65.........LOL
