Price check: 1969 Super Bee

Bill lives in my neck of the woods it would be slick to have an orange '68 500 next to his green Bee at the local car shows in the park! Mmmm I should not have him over to my house until I get all my parts reinstalled on my '68... what is this car missing.... :)

Interested only in 68, or 69 B Body, and the budget has always been < 26 as I want money for disc brakes and possibly Classic AC.

No rear seat belts, and seller will not take offers outside of eBay. Placing my first ever eBay car bid tonight. I have a feeling this car will hit 25, and that is well above my number.

Anytime I've purchased on Internet sites I've made my mind up to go look well ahead of the auction end. Cash, face to face, in front of a seller before it ends its what it takes. One in the hand vs two in the bush...

I did this twice now, one time it was less than the highest bid at the time. Go for the close! eBay is a PIA if your selling, he'll never get paid. In defense of the seller, I don't negotiate over the phone either without a buyer taking a look.

Those hoods were used on non air grabber n 69'
it's missing the filler piece between the hood and grille that attaches to the lip of the hood. It has few incorrect things going on but looks like a nice ride.
If it's as described I think that's a good price.

I looked at my 1969 Coronet dealer's brochure (dated 7/68). All the Coronets pictured have the filler piece between the hood and grill EXCEPT on the last page, there is a picture of all of the Scat Pack cars. The Super Bee in the picture does not have the filler piece.

Interesting because I have been watching You Tube Super Bee videos and about half of the cars have the filler piece and the others not?

The filler piece "should" be on all 69 Coronets. Although some Promo pics don't show it. One idea could be, that they planned to use the unchanged 68 hoods first but then decided to use a filler piece last minute. Which looks way better imho.

I've even driven to see ebay cars before placing a bid.
That way I know exactly what I'm bidding on.

If other don't, and over bid, then it's their problem.

I might not win, but I won't get screwed.

OTOH, if it's actually better than the pics, I'm armed with that as well.

If I hadn't driven to check out my 72 Charger, I would not have known it had a clock cluster, rear sway bar or 8 3/4 3.23 sure grip. Those added significantly to it's value.

I'm surprised that you are not more worried about the vibration issue. They can cost a lot of money amd time trying to fix it.

Yes, this is a valid concern. Probably bad news in the pinion, and the seller believes this is the problem, also. I think this is an issue I can solve, but you are correct it will take time and money.

Found a Road Runner clone on the For Sale forum and on eBay. Trying to get the seller to call me.

I've been outbid on the Super Bee; I assume that car will go to 26K, and I can't play there, anyway. It was fun to chat with the seller; he talks like Boomhauer from King of the Hill and is just a really nice down to earth 'good ol'boy' who loves to talk about cars. I really enjoyed researching that car.

That Road Runner trunk has been patched together with a lot of seam sealer. I would inspect this car very carefully before purchasing.

The financial experts are warning of a market crash bigger than 2008 soon. They are saying this will effect things like collector car values. So, you might want to wait since prices now are at an all time high.

Yes, I've come back to solid ground. My first eBay bidding experience was a great lesson learned. The seller reduced the reserve, then texted me that I 'should not let anyone steal the car, so bid my max NOW'. Then texted me that I should get this car and am only a few bids away. I may not be a eBay car bidding veteran, but I know when I'm getting stroked!

If you've read the other 'price check' threads, I do have the discipline to stick to budgets. So, I am still in search of that B Body that is less than 22K. Pass the word!

1st, the hood looks legit. Without the Ramcharger N96 option, the Power Bulge hood was Standard issue. The top of a 68 and 69 look the same. A 69 hood has a provision for a ram charger set up on the passenger's side when used with the Ramcharger flat hood. There are differences in holes punched in the hoods. You can swap 68/69 bulge hoods, account for the filler piece and they will look fine when shut. There is a difference when they are open.

2nd, as someone already mentioned, the Air Cleaner assembly is NOT a '69. It looks like a '70 style that would be on say a Challenger 383, I'm sure it was used on others as well.

3rd, the interior seat upholstery, front and rear, is NOT factory '69 Super Bee. In fact I don't believe it is '69 Coronet upholstery at all. Not sure what it is from. On second thought, this car has bucket seats (option code C55), so MAYBE with buckets you got this funky upholstery?? Door panels don't match with Super Bee's I've seen either. Steering wheel does not look to be correct for '69 either. Anyone know for sure about any of this?? The rest of the dash looks good and correct for '69. Can't see the tach/clock very well in the photos, does it have a Tachometer with the Clock on the Rallye cluster? The fender tag is coded for both A62 (Rallye Instrument Cluster) and N85 (Tachometer). The A62 supposedly INCLUDES the Tachometer, so therefore the N85 code would seem to be redundant? Just seems odd.

Incorrect upholstery a for a 69 Bee. The door panels are the correct panels for the M6* optional bucket seat interior.

Tach was standard with A62 in the R/T. Tach was optional in the Bee.

4th, notice the door handles. They have the BLACK plastic buttons which were used on early model year cars. This fits perfectly with the SPD (scheduled production date) of August 15th, 1968 on the fender tag. Also, the tail light lenses appear to be the "early" type as well. Both of these items changed to a different style somewhere around January 1st 1969. So, both of these look legit. However, the tail light FINISH PANEL is not correct for a Super Bee. Either this was changed out from another Coronet model (Coronet 440?) or the original finish was removed and not restored to factory OEM. Same with the finish on the headlight bezels. They appear too "Bright".

5th, On the passenger front fender, it is difficult to see if there is a "Pentastar" on the lower portion of the fender. If there IS one there, it appears to be too far back, too close to the door edge. If it is missing, that is another indication of sheet metal work that has been done, possibly incorrectly. In addition, the one picture that shows the passenger side door jamb area with the door open, just seems a little peculiar to me. I'm looking at the seam where the quarter panel meets up with the door jamb and it just doesn't quite seem like a factory job. Kinda looks like some rough weld bead in a couple places?? I don't know, maybe it is factory???

6th, fender tag is coded for a BLACK tail stripe (V8X) and this car now has a WHITE stripe.

7th, Exhaust tips are PLYMOUTH, not DODGE.

8th, Of course the spare tire hold down bracket is missing from the trunk, but you stated that the trunk floor had been replaced. Just another detail overlooked by the shop that did the work. I call it "shoddy" but you may be OK with it?? Also, as a FYI, there looks to be a trunk light switch installed on this car. Usually this is part of the A01 Light Package option, this is NOT coded on the fender tag. Again, not sure how this happens.

I guess that's enough analysis for this one, hope this helps you with your decision. Overall, probably one of the better cars "for the money" that you've been looking at that I'm aware of. Good luck!

edit: Looks like more info has been posted while I was composing this reply. Others have brought up some of the same issues I've pointed out.

Late to the party but I don't see this car as a mid 20s car. Too much to fix and correct.
