Install help on putting door windows back in Satellite

I had to replace a regulator in one of the doors of a '67 Satellite. While at it, I took both doors apart and the windows out in order to redo the wipes and fuzzies. Cleaned everything up and bought new wipes and fuzzies because they ripped when I took the friggin windows out in accordance to the manual. I left the window lift on the window and it ripped the wipe and fuzzies trying to work it out. I know I could have gone the rout of removing the "rivet" and removing the lift, but that is not how the manual said to do it, so I figured it must be next to impossible to put a new rivet in with the window back in place. Bottom line is that I have been trying to get the window and wing window back in place without ripping the new wipe and fuzzies. Three of us have tried to 2 hours to get the set back in place. Does anyone know a secret in doing this? Also, I decided to keep the fuzzy off until I get the window back in place. I will then try to put the fuzzy strip on since it has clamps that "simply" push down in place. Am I screwing up do it this way?
 
I just replaced the seals that go around the windows (left/right/top) and then the cat whiskers that go outside and inside of window (wipe/fuzzy).
To get the window back in, I did what you did as well. left the window lift on the window. To get it back in the door (learning the hard way on the first one) I had to remove the newly installed cat whisker/felt that sits in front/behind the window. Installed the window fully, cranked it down and then put the whiskers in. Hope this helps!
 
Took my 67 x apart for resto did not use the manual but it is NO picnic did not go together yet but I am going to assume I can get it back together the same way left the window and regulator in place removed the front glass track and wing window first I do not look forward to getting this back together within the next 8 months hope I do not break or scratch anything
 
I just did this on my 68 GTS Dart. I have done several Mopar windows before. A,B,E bodies. On the A and B body cars. I put in the rear window track first. I assemble the wing vent assy and the roll down window together, because of the fuzzy slide at the front of the window. I leave the door inner and outer seals off. I install the wing and window as an assy. without the regulator ( sometimes takes an assistant ). I then move the window down about half way and install the regulator. Yes.. There is room to do this. I install the inner and outer seals last. Hope this helps....:D:D

When you say inner and outer seals I take it as the belt mouldings aka whiskers?
 
I like that idea never thought of installing the glass and vent assembly together that makes sense because of those small plastic guides they seem like fun once together is it a fight to get the belt mouldings in place

More cluttered now , than I would like... Too many Projects...68 GTS, 70 Cuda, 65 Belvedere Post Car. The vent window rubbers are pretty easy. There is a screw at the top that separates the A . Then there is a clamp at the bottom that holds a swivel post. and then of course the the top swivel, which is just a screw. The new rubbers go in pretty easy.
 
OK, another 4 hours and the driver side is back together with minimum dings. Here some things I learned from this thread and from trial and error. Following the manual is a guide, but it in no way describes what it is you have to do or exactly how to do it.

If you haven't taken everything apart, and if you want to use the existing whiskers and wipe, you will have have another (third) set of hands to get up under the door and attempt to "spread the door halves apart at the whips. It does not take much, but just enough to get the window lift bracket to clear the wipes. It is next to impossible to take the wipes off and not bend them or bust off clips. I'd count on a new set of wipes.

Not a big deal to remove the window and vent wing assemble together with two people.

I had to make new gaskets for the brackets. I found a weather proof roll of gasket material that was close to .025". It had rubber in it and that gave it a nice cushion effect. I could not find the stiff "velvet" gasket material anywhere. The stuff I used came from Auto Zone.

I bought a set of weatherstripping for the windows. Much like the wiper and whiskers, I could only find a complete set for all four windows. Now the confusion. I noticed that the driver window had a clear plastic "weatherstrip" on the window edge, along with the slides. I couldn't see how this was weather proof so I put the new fuzzy weatherstrips in the cleaned channels and then attempted to slide the window, with the plastic and the slides into the channel. 10 gallons of crap in the 5 gallon bucket. So I got rid of the plastic. Still tight, but it would slide in with force. Kept thinking.."how is this thing going to slide on its own". It won't. Maybe you need a different set of slides, I use the originals and the ones that came with the new stuff. Finally, used the original plastic "weatherstrip" and the original slides. That works. Ruined the driver side new weatherstrip in the failed process. Oh, the channel at the rear of the door is a piece of cake to replace.

Got the window in the wing assembly. Ready to insert the set. Two people is a must. Kept the inside whisker strip off. This strip snaps in from the top down so is not that difficult. Sure makes getting the lift bracket in easier. Also, the lead bracket is rounded and this helps get it past the wipes and whiskers. The biggest proble I had on the first go around was thinking that the leading edge of the wing assembly (chrome) went OVER the edge of the door in order to cover the "raw" metal and to act as a shield for what looked like a means of getting water into the door. Did not remember how exactly it came off. After awhile, we tried it both ways but cold not get the unit is "fall" in place. Part to the problem is a metal "thinkamajig" located just in front of the division channel on the wing assembly. It needs to go under a support going across the door panels. You have to get this under that metal support before you can think about "dropping" the unit in place. Even then, hardest part to figure out came only after I played with the other door with the wind window frame without a window in it. It took 3 minutes to figure it out, and it only took one person.

When you get the assembly in place and that Thingamabob is under the support, now look in the hole where the 'yoke", on the front of the wing vent assembly, fits over the stud. Line it up so it looks like the yoke will slide right on. Then look up at the hole above where the support for the front of the assembly has a nut and washer that fastens the assembly. Make it look like it just needs to slide straight forward to line up. Have the leading edge of the chrome on the assembly going UNDER the rough edge of the door. Now, slide the assembly forward and it should drop in place. Double check the yoke on the stud and the alignment of the hole above. Now you are in business.

Put all the in and out, and fore and aft adjusters back in. Hook the regulator into the lift bracket and then screw the regulator in place. Don't forget to grease the lift bracket. Align the window and set the regulator stops. Put the panel and crank and handle on and you have it. I only had, have, one problem. The channel whiskers for the back end of the door/window, came with new rivets to hold the weatherstrip in place. These rivets were bigger than the ones that are original. I was hesitant about using them, but did. The window frame cranks down to that river head and then screaches across it for about 3 inches. More annoying than harmful. I used a dremmel tool to grind it down. The lead part of the frame still wants to hit it. I figure, leave well enough alone! Hopefully the pieces will wear themselves together and stop singing a happy tune.

That is it sport satellite fans. Now I think the passenger door should only take an hour to put it all together. Isn't this fun?? Thanks for all the help. I hope this helps someone in the future. I'm sure there are easier ways to do this, but we learn by our mistakes.......I know I do. Take care...............
