This question probably applies to all cars but since I'm building a `65 Belvedere thought I'd post it here. Completely rebuilding all of the drum brakes - both front a back. Dumb question, but do the smaller pads go on the front half of the assembly or the rear half? (I should have paid more attention when I took everything apart...). I rebuilt the front brake assemblies with the small pads in the front but the auto-adjusting cable hits one of the big backing plate mounting bolts, rendering it useless. Would like some advice before taking everything apart. I can send a picture (I think) if needed.
Thanks,
Steve

Short shoe is always forward. If it is new to you take all the drums off and compare the sides. Hope it helps.

Steve,The shoe with the shorter lining always goes toward the front, whether you are working on the front or the rear system. Also, Typically the auto adjust cable should pass over a guide that is usually held in place with one of the upper return springs.
