hi all. I'm new to this site and hope to learn a lot here. I recently found a 64 polara that was " brought up from L.A" and parked in a barn in late 80s. Don't really have any history on the car and thought someone could tell a little something about it . I'm posting some pics of fender tag and car. It is numbers matching but motor is tired and we pulled it today. Not entirely sure what I'm going to do yet. Opinions welcomed! Thanks. Lee

Welcome Lee

If I didn't know better, I would say it was my old dodge when I was 18! I had one identical, black with black interior, dark glass, origanal 383 2bll. AC, pr brakes and steering.
I installed a better cam, 4bll intake. And a 9 3/4-456 Dana rear. That car would roll!

There's not too many Black with Black interior. Most had Red interior. Want to sell it? Looks like it's in good shape

Welcome Lee. My opinion on what to do with it is...
Sell it to me! Cheap!
I could use an early Dodge to go with my Plymouths. Looks like it just needs some TLC.

Lol.. I won't be selling this one. Just trying to decide if I want to go back with the 383 or put the 440 6 pak 4 speed I have sitting on the shelf. Car has one bubble behind passenger side rear on bottom of quarter . Took the seats out, no build sheet. Have all original parts down to hubcaps. Pulling carpet in the morning and then she goes out to get quarter fixed and cleared.

Lee, reach up in front of or under the glove box for a broadcast card. They would tape it up under there. Thats where I've found them on two '64s now. It's the good card with all the info and signatures. The couple I've found in the back seat, weren't so complete. Good luck!

Wow.... that's a great looking Dodge. Welcome to the site. The 440 6pak 4 speed would be very cool but also having such a nice original car is pretty sweet too. Good luck and keep us up on the progress.

Just a suggestion for something different. Stroke the 383, you'll have a little more room for a high rise intake and a decent air cleaner under the hood. TTI makes headers for the B engine that fit. My engine is a 383 bored .030, eagle 3.9 in crank, eagle rods, j&e pistons. Works out to about 449 c.i. Very happy with that combination. A 440 would probably cost less depending on what you have to do to it. Good luck with your project.

Looks pretty much original. I would build the original motor and trans and not much else to keep it that way. They are original only once but that is what I would do your car your way of course.

I believe that 383 is an RB block if original .

The 383 is a low deck B engine, except for the rare 59 RB 383.

It has AAQA cast in the block. What does that mean?
AAQA is a foundry code. On a 383 block, its nothing special. However if it was a 413/426 block, it would be. AAQA is on all the max wedge blocks, and is used to help confirm a true max wedge block. However, that foundry did multiple blocks including LAs, Polys, Hemis etc but they were the only foundry that did the max wedge blocks.

You need not worry about what to do with as I'm on my way to pick it up from you. So take it easy, I'll be there shortly.

Car is out getting clear coat now. Found the build sheet under the carpet bolted between passenger seat and floor!
