68 Charger Up For Auction - Opinions Needed

I have no idea what NOM means & I hate the gages, but that is one sweet looking car. IF it's an original R/T, it's worth a pretty penny.

I've reached out to the auction house to see what they have to say. Also asked if they have a build sheet, fender tag...etc...

nom means not matching motor..orginal motor not in car..Price should come down some for not matching motor...But seeing that it is a charger it is a very desirable car...Meaning more money..But find out the price and go for it....

Thanks. Got a response back that you are correct. Hopefully if this is a true RT then I can get it at a good price & just re-install the OEM gauges. Will be interested to get more info as to what the engine date is.

Talked to the owner and was originally a 383 hp. Transmission and back are #s matching. Not able to check out 68s right now but if I remember correctly 383s were not part of the RT package.

Yep, that's what I thought. I talked to the owner last night, who's in his 80's. He bought the car from the widow of the owner. He's not a Mopar guy so wasn't sure if it was a clone or not. Seeing he did not build/restore the car God only knows what was put into it. He was told by the auction house it will probably sell in the mid-30's (40's is my limit, for now).

I'm so pissed as the car has all of the features I'm looking for: Color, Engine, Auto, Console, Black vinyl roof but at the end of the day it's a clone & I have too many unanswered questions to what was put into this car that I have to walk away. This is the 2nd exact same optioned car I've seen in my search that has been a mystery build.

And so the search continues......

RTs had 440s and Hemis.

It is pretty sharp looking. I don't like the gauges either and if you look at the picture of the trunk floor with the mat raised it looks like it has filler with black paint over it as I see cracking.

My old friends Dad has a 68 Charger, Tor Red, 383 4spd that he slapped R/T badges on in the early 70's. It has sat in his barn for 20 years, has some rust in the quarters. Anytime I visit I ask his mom if I can buy it from him and she says go tow it away. He goes off on her. We all get a good laugh though. It is one of those "I'm going to fix it up someday" cars.

Yea I would walk away from that wagon..There are more out there!!part of the fun is the hunt. You do not want to buy the wrong car here..Want a runner?

Yea, too many possible issues. Holding out for a Charger until I feel I've exhausted all my options by Spring.

Auction claims it will go for mid 30K?? And it looks like it needs at least a trunk floor...

You guys are picky. Look at it in person. Buy a hood, dash, windshield and nose for that car here and you could spend more than half of the asking price. Sheesh.

Picky? In my opinion, a non original motor car that needs a trunk floor, and maybe more is not worth over 30 grand.

You haven't priced 68-69 Chargers have you?. The key here would be if it's a really nice car. Only way to know is to go look at it. Nice sheet metal, paint, trim and interior would cost over 30K. Now maybe it's a turd, that's a different story. I'd rather have a nice clone than a beater original R/T. You think you're going to buy a NICE marching number R/T for 30 k ????? I wouldn't bet on it.

Doug,
Did I say a nice original #matching R/T was only $30k? No.
I've been around these cars for a long time (30+ years) and I can honestly say when a trunk floor looks like this one there's more hiding underneath. I've owned 6 68-70 B-Bodies over the years. That car is probably worth around $20k - maybe.

Rare car! Only 333 (259 4-bbl and 74 2-bbl) 383 4-speed Chargers were made in 1968. Probably half are either gone or are in pieces. Nice to hear about one in good shape.

Nice! I'll let him know how rare it is. It is in real good shape and still starts up. I believe the interior is red as well.
