What color should a '69 E63 383HP (H code) motor be painted? Were there any exceptions for H code wagons or wagons built in the Los Angeles plant? Thnx all.

For 1969:

Road Runners and Super Bees with either transmission and without A/C were orange.
Any other B body (Charger, Satellite, Coronet 440) with four speed and without A/C would be orange.

Any A/C car would be turquoise.
Any non Road Runner or Super Bee with automatic would be turquoise.

So if the wagon has a four speed the engine would be orange. If it has an automatic or A/C it would be turquoise.

No exceptions by plant.

An H in the VIN only tells you the car came with a 383-4bbl. It does not tell you which version, HP or not, the car received. All HPs were H code; not all H codes are HP.

Should be orange but some that had ac were turquoise.

Thanks for the input folks. The wagon is an auto (D32) with AC. As mentioned, it is an H code (in the VIN) and E63 (on the fender tag). I haven't checked the numbers on the engine yet but was at least visually trying to ID it via engine color.

Recently there was a debate here or on FABO about motors from this year being turquoise and/or blue and people's interpretations of the two taking into consideration years of fading/color change. I have had/seen both colors and the motor in the wagon looks more blue to me. I'm going in for surgery in a few hours and will be sidelined for a couple of weeks or more so I won't be under the car for awhile to verify if this is the motor the wagon came with. The Holley carb is also a possible sign. I'll post a few pics. Let me know what you think. Thnx.

The valve covers appear to be corporate blue and it's hard to really tell if the intake and the water pump housing look turquoise maybe? Or am I just seeing things...

Should be turquoise. Rocker covers could, and look as though, they've been painted .
