So my body shop guys suggested out of the blue maybe I should consider some small spring like around the pins so when I take out the close pin the hoop kind of pops up so we can get our fingers under the edges to lift it off? lol He is only suggesting this because my fiberglass hood has a weak spot on one side and would tend to bend in the middle before, now that he has it flat he is afraid mis handling it will bend it again.

So my question to the real lift off hood guys is how do you go about lifting it off?

Standing in front lifting it by the scoop.

Yes, hands up, elbows down, and just lift it off. Then I hang it on some hooks I've got on the wall.

Sweet, I was trying to figure out how to keep the hood wall or ceiling mounted shelf or something easy almost considered a mini hoist system

On my 69 RR I lift it at front edge first, then grab the side rail at the back. This is with an assistant. Then I have a blanket on top of the car roof, we set the hood on that. My F/G hood is real sturdy.

Pretty sure some drag cars with a lift off have light weight spring to pop the hood up

and you could use it as a hood prop too :poke:

If you lift it by the scoop, be sure to do it with your palm down or it will break the brace in the middle.

And that's the same I do when I'm out somewhere. The original hoods are pretty stout.

I lift up the front end just a bit then I press it against my belt line - then grabbing both sides I lift it off balancing it against my waist and holding both sides - I then put it on the vinyl top of the car. Been doing that for many, many, many years. No damage no problem.

is there a way to have a lift-off hood that includes some sort of hinge/stay on the cowl for ease of the lifting the hood off???

best of both?? thinkin out loud here...:D

What about those suction cup handles they use on glass?
