Drove the '68 Coronet to work yesterday. Went out on my lunch break to do some carb tweaking ( still dialing it in ! ).... One of our parts vendors drivers came by happy as can be. " oh my god, I remember these when they were new, I haven't seen one in years ! Man this thing is nice. I knew it was a '68 ! ... now you need to go find a '74 barracuda, you know those ? yeah, you need the HEMI one, the 440. Those were the best one " ..... I really didn't know how to react, just smiled and agreed with him .... thought it was funny !

Some years back, I had a guy in another car chase me down at a stop light to ask me if my 64 wagon had a 383 Hemi in it. I said, "Oh Yeah it does"...

I was racing a 426 hemi back then. was watching sox-martin kick bill Jenkins ***, in grudge exhibition race. I over heard some kids from claremore okla. talking about their 340`s running in the 9`s.

I run into guys like that occasionally on the street or at shows. Most are nice guys so I just smile and thank them. No sense in getting into long winded explanations they probably won't remember.

Oh yeah, he also said he used to have a 68 GTX with the bumble bee stripe across the back .....

An old friend of my buddy Mowpar was telling some BS while I was working on my GTX some years ago. He said he used to to work on them 454 Chrysler engines all the time. When I told him they were Chev's, he suddenly felt the urge to slip away somewhere else. I guess that's why he is known locally as "Ian the Penis" :lol:

Funny how some of the less knowledgeable types
do that from time to time...

albeit, not what they were probably referring to
BUT;
You can have a 413-426w-440 RB or a 350-361-383 B/Low-deck
Hemi "Conversion" thou

I kind of enjoy all the B.S. out there - makes life a more interesting ride.:thumbsup:

The best ones are at the car shows and when they see 426 on the valve covers...you see the puzzled look on their faces & you over hear them say I thought the spark plugs were in the valve covers...???...

Or when the Chevy guy sees 383 and says "ohhh...a small block...."

They usually mean well. I'm not super knowledgeable so I don't like to get into debates about that stuff. And like someone above said why get into a long winded explanation about some they won't not only remember - but also understand. I had my master mechanic swear up and down that my edlebrock hi-rise and holly six pack set up wasn't original equipment. I knew he was wrong but was only going to debate so much. I came to the real experts at FBBO for ammunition. Got it in spades. Even advertising that proved the point. He still shook his head but didn't have much to say. That was too much work - but I also wanted to be sure I was correct as well. Smile and agree as they say...

I am 67 today, let me assure you, the people that don't know about that stuff now, NEVER did know anything about cars. Dave

hey I had my car out Thursday and stopped to get ice cream a guy working near where I parked says "heyy that sounds good is that a 340?" I said no he goes ohh a 318 then ....I didn't know how to react .......aside from the 440 on the hoodscoops I mean come on dude

:lol:
