Best of luck. Around here....it's all insane pricing.

Yea when i painted my truck it cost me 7gs an that included material i wish i could get that deal again i would be willing to take it to AZ. or NV if i can get a better deal plus it needs new front floors. So anyone here paint cars on the side? I do side work in the mechanics of the hobby that's how i get the extra$ for my restoration but i don't do paint and body

I don't have to tell you that CA is one of the most expensive and regulation restricted states in the Union when it comes to paint/bodywork. Between that and all of the prima donnas that have popped up in the industry over the last 20+ years, it's almost impossible to get a professional pant job for a fair price without dealing with egos & attitudes.

I recently moved out of the SF Bay Area up north a bit. I have found that the further north I go, the more paint/body craftsmen I find. These are old school guys that have their own little character quirks but do know their stuff and are definitely reasonable. I'm looking to have one of my cars painted as well. As soon as I do a little more research, I can pass on some info if that's of interest to you. Feel free to PM me and I'll keep you in the loop.

From my experience, restoration and paint work is all lube up and bend over. And at that, hope the entire experience only lasts a couple of years.

Sad, but how most of the stories on here go.

Looks like the car is worth spending the money on, can't wait to see it done!

My Buddy had his 70 GTO done down San Diego way. All body work primed blocked sealed and painted. 10K ouch but real nice show quality not a fly spec. I have seen them go for more..

That's lawn-show paint, around here. Stupid-high prices. Gotta get outta the metro area.

I agree but it dosent stop him from driving the snot out of it. He also let me drive it when I was down there a few weeks ago. 455 Eddy heads 5spd Tremec and 373s and a Hotchkess suspension. Fun Car.

Show car paint around here, is 15-20K and up. Nice driver paint is 10. Paint shouldn't change how you drive a car. After all, they're meant to be driven.

Guess it doesn't matter a whole lot where you are on paint prices given the $$$$ tossed out in these posts. I'm having trouble just finding shops that have the time to do the job so the old supply & demand theory applies I suppose. I got a rough quote of $10k for my '63 Fury convert that is a solid CA car. I can save around a grand if I take off and reinstall all chrome. Never realized just how much chrome is on the car until looking closer taking it all off!

As my painter used to say...."you can pay me to do body-work/paint, or unbolt parts and trim, it pays the same for me".
