Hello,

Got a quick question - I am installing a new Fel-Pro crank seal in my front timing cover (383). I see the outer rim of the seal is coated in a red material (a sealant?). Do I need to use any sort of sealer on this outer perimeter before pressing the seal into the cover?

Thanks!

The red material is sealant that will cure after installation. Pop that puppy in.

You can use a light coat of silicone sealer....But you don't really have to.. I do it sometimes for insurance...

Not really needed, but I put some aviation sealer on sparingly and use a homemade installer with the correct size discs.
Don't pound it in.........

Ok folks got a question here. I’m getting ready to reassemble my timing chain cover but ran into a speed bump. Here is my cover and new crank seal. Question is how does this seal get pressed on? It almost looks like it’s too big. Any help would be appreciated.

I took different pictures as reference points.

Ok I feel dumb. The older crank seal is still in there isn’t it? I suppose sometimes it helps to post and see your mistakes.
