Hello guys!

This winter I'm starting the EFI conversion of my 1969 roadrunner and thought that I'd create a build thread to keep track of my progress and if someone is interested in the build - I might be able to help someone.

So. First the car itself:

I went with the mean street for some different reasons and I think it will go along well with the MSD setup that's already in the car

For fuel, there might be some problems with the Swedish regulation with the fuel commander - so I opted for a in-tank setup from tanks inc along with a filter from fuel lab

Tank from tanks inc looks beautiful

I cut down the fuel pump assembly to fit the depth of the tank, and zip-tied it together

Test mounting it in the tank - and it fits like a glove.

This weekend's project is to do the same adjustment to the new fuel sender unit, and start tearing out the old fuel system. I will run AN6 both ways, and opted for hard tubing under the car, with teflon hoses connecting the FiTECH and fuel tank in each end - to cope with the vibrations.

I'll keep you updated

gRReat looking car, great colors. Look forward to following the conversion.

I'm watching this upgrade, beautiful Runner you have.

Wow!!! Beautiful car you have there! Will be watching for sure!

Sorry for no updates ATM, A dodge ram hit me from behind and there's too much things to work out with insurance companies and hospitals for me to find time in the garage. I'll be back soon though :)

Started to align the unit on top of the intake manifold

Cables sorted out pretty neatly, however there's some alignment issues with the old throttle cable brackets. I needed to massage them a bit in order to go where I wanted. Turned out pretty neatly.

Next step is to clean up the intake manifold because it's really dirty, order a new gasket for the unit since I can't find the included one (I used a friends house as US shipping adress, so it might went missing in the repacking).

Next issue though. With 60 degree AN6 bends for the fuel delivery, it hits the inside of the filter base, and by looking at it, it doesn't really help to go deep drop filter base - since it will hit even more. So either I go with 90 degree AN6 or reshape the filter base. Any thoughts?

If the 90s will clear, just go that route. If not, use banjo fittings.

Beautiful RR and I like the tires and rim set up. Can you give me tire sizes and offset for your rolling stock? I will be watching this closely as I have wanted a Fitech from the start and really interested in your process. I am in Alaska so the cold start issue is a big deal for me and this should cure that. Thanks for the posts and keep the pictures coming! Mocajava

I just installed this unit on a 1970 chevelle. I did not use timing control as it has stock hei and works well.

I also ran -6 feed and return with aeroquip push tite

I used the same fuel labs filter as you.

Thing runs great but I did add fuel and remove decel fuel.

I went. With 3 fittings that are 90 degree throughout the system. Roller cam edelbrock headed 468 runs fine with good afrs

They are 18x8 with 4 inch up front and 20x9.5 with 5 inch in the rear if I don't remember it wrong, can measure them up the next time I have them off. Think they're 295s in the rear and 235 up front.

Watching too. I still consider the FiTech route when I finally get my car back to the point of worrying about that again lol

Just emailing Pace/ Johnny and he is shooting me prices on the system. Will hopefully end up with a 485 stroker from a 383, 2 barrel engine with Fitech sitting on top!

Alright, so the 90 degree AN-fittings still don't clear the filter base and I can't figure out which Banjo fittings to pick? Can anyone just post an url? :)

Today I emptied the old gas tank and removed it, and the block off plate for the old mechanical fuel pump arrived (correct one with gasket this time) so hopefully I'm going to get around to start plumbing this week.

Story time.

90 degree bends didn't do the trick. And there's no Banjos for 9/16 -24 which the inlet side of the fuel rail is threaded in. Back to the drawing board.

So I looked around and found these for the return side:

Turns out that the return side is M10x1,25 which they make banjos for. So I got one of them with AN6 fitting. Will arrive in a couple of days and set me back another 30 bucks.

Then I figured, there SHOULD be some 9/16 24 AN6 90 degree parts that screws directly into the rail. And there is! https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/ear-at949094erl

Great - but with shipping and some other small bits and parts it came down to $100 for three small fittings including tax and shipping. Not happening (or so I thought). So I started calling around. Guess what - the only option was to have a local company to buy it from Summit with a 25% mark up... So I bit the bullet and ordered the darn fittings from Summit..

Email sent that it was shipped. Expressed that baby here. Happy for about 10 minutes. Then one Swedish local vendor called and said "Oh, there's another fitting just the same but blue, you can pick it up right away for $7"....:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Called Summit and it turned out that it had not left their facility. Went over to the local vendor and guess what. It wasn't 9/16 but 1/2.....

Upside though is that I have the part number for the blue fitting which is available locally for less than the summit price.

Other than that - car is on jack stands and I emptied the tank for removal tonight. Electrics for fan is in place as well as for the new vacuum pump and EFI kit.

Gotta love the fitting scramble. I've found it hard in Australia to get the random imperial fittings & bolts at times as well. I've had to sub in some metric bolts in a couple of places just because I couldn't get the size I needed and couldn't get them online either - who is going to sell 2-3 bolts over the internet?

Good luck! I'm interested in going EFI now as well so I'm following with interest. Personally not sure if I should go fitech or the Holley sniper...

Alright so all bits and pieces has finally arrived and latest order consisted of:

10-1.25 AN6 Banjo Bolt
Rubber o-ring/aluminum rings for banjo bolt
New tank straps
Reducer for FiTech termostat to fit in my water pump
New jack so I can get under the car
Impact sockets for exhaust removal

The outlet port is 10-1.25 on the FiTech and the hole through the M10 banjo looks a bit tiny - but I read others running the same config on the return without any trouble so I hope I'll be fine.

I ran into some problems with the tank bands being bent by the previous owner owed-tightening the nuts on the J-bolts and I had a real PITA to get it off. Ended up with a huge pipe wrench and forced it down. Now it's hanging on the last part so I can cut old fuel lines and finally get the thing off. Noticed some bad rusting on the old bands so I figured since I'm going with a new tank I might as well order new tank bands.

Some pieces of the FiTech has gone AWOL, either when shipping or during shipping so I had to order a reducer bit to fit the termostat into the 1/2 port on the water pump. Too bad kids came down with the flu this week so I can't really take the time I want in the garage until they come back on their feet. Will try to get some pictures next time I'm in the garage though.
