hi to all..ok after finding out my starter needed replacing, and after 4 hours of trying to remove the 2 bolts,,,,i was so happy, then while holding the starter with one hand and the other hand removing the last bolt,i thought it would drop out,,it stuck it only wiggles a little bit,its not coming out...need some help and advice thanks.

My recollection was that it would slip out pretty easy. The one time I had a similar situation (it bound on trying to pull it out) turned out to be that the part that went into the bellhousing was cracked and catching somehow. (or at least that is the shape it was in when I ultimately got it out). I don't have any recommendation but to keep trying. I will dig around in the stuff I have to see if I can find any other notes or descriptions.

I just looked. The FSM for 1970 says
disconnect ground
remove start cable at starter
disconnect solenoid lead wire
remove bolts attaching starter to flywheel housing and remove starter.

I think it may be a keep trying situation.

i think i found the problem.i remember trying to start the car and the starter was clicking so it must of stayed in the open spin to flywheel mode, when i last tryied to start the car,so i will connect wires back up and try to start. and it should click back behind the flywheel.this should release it free.

Uhhh..... I wouldn't recommend doing that. For one, being bolted to the bellhousing is the starter's ground wire & now it's unbolted. Two, that starter should return to it's "starter gear pulled back away from flywheel" position when there is no power going to it.

Big block Mopar starters normally fall out on their own once the two bolts are removed....just fall out.... so something is "stuck" on yours. The only things I can think of that could get "stuck" are #1-the starter is super trashed & the gear is still sticking out + the flywheel is mangled too really bad somehow & the two gears are stuck together or #2 (much more likely) the "nose" of the starter (the protrusion at the engine side end of the starter on the "1/2-cup" that surrounds the starter gear) is stuck in it's locating hole in the bellhousing. You should be able to wiggle it free and/or smack it with a hammer or pry with a crowbar to pull it out. If it's #2, then maybe take a look at where that starter nose goes in the bellhousing....maybe that's messed up somehow.

Take the inspection cover off and have a lookie

Put a socket on the bolt on the front of the crank and move it back and forth a little. Should relieve any pressure from the flywheel. If it doesn't fall out, then get the BFH.

thanks guys..yeah i should of listened to chrysler kid,,all along it was the battery,,not enough cranking amps just got back from parts store.so now battery is charged,,should i hook up the 2 bolts back and try to start her?

also i will turn crank with bolt, method. weekend project,,thanks guys have a safe and wonderful weekend.

To me, it sounds like the solenoid did not release and is holding the starter gear to the flywheel. If is is released, there is really nothing to hold it attached to the flywheel.

thats exactly what happened,,wanna say thanks again to this excellent b bodies only forum, and members..years of knowledge ,,,,,,,cheers,,beers are on me,,lol.
