Its about time they got a raise. Just one question........how come the Vets got jack SH!T?

I concur with the raise. Now, how to pay for it ? First, is reduce congressman's pay, benefits, & any/all stipends for staff people who's only purpose is to get the politician re-elected.

The point I'm trying make is this, active duty gets a 2.1% raise and Vets get .3%! That's not right!!

We're just an added expense. The service members coming in after 2018 won't get a pension. They'll be like everyone else where they will have a 401k(Thrift saving Plan) with 6% matching

all that money wasted on the recount............all the money blown sending to other countries.......all the money wasted on lobbyists.....all the money the odumbo spent flying around and rallying for clinton.....this could go on for days listing items..

Spending has to the halted......checks and balances, what that?

There are many people in the private sector that has no idea nor experienced what the term "Raise" refers too. In the current Government situation the only people that should get any type of raise or benefits is the Veterans, FIRST! It pisses me off when they treat the refugees with better care and treatment than our retired protectors.....All for a political purpose....

I agree! More pay for us retired Vets! The military abandoning it's 20 yr retirement plan, (and/or if you go to 30 yr you get full pay and benefits) will NOT attract people! I saw it with glee way back when and said I can do 20 yrs then fool around and build cars! Wait...that's exactly what I'm doing!!!!!

I see it as the cost of being the lone superpower. Screw up on the military and you will take an awful chance at losing that status.

Veterans pay is tied to Social Security. When SS gets an increase, veterans get the same amount.

The funny thing is I got a letter from SS stating that I would get a .3% increase starting in Jan., but the amount was no different that what I was getting all year long. I guess the Medicare charge must have increased by .3% as well. The government giveth and the government taketh away.

I think we need to reduce military salaries. Manpower costs are fast approaching 40% of the defense budget, which is ridiculous. And since operations and maintenance funding is tough to cut, a lot of cuts are being made to procurement dollars to accommodate manpower costs. This means reductions in training, expendables like ammunition, and getting new systems. Another problem is too many people are staying for 20-30+ years so they can get retirement, which is going to drive up manpower costs even faster even as our military forces grey out more and more every year.

We should cut salaries and move that money back to procurement where it belongs.

The incoming POTUS has a plan we see how it turns out. Presumably pay is also part of it

Donald J. Trump's 10 Point Plan to Reform The Department of Veterans Affairs

1. Appoint a VA Secretary whose sole purpose will be to serve veterans. Under a Trump Administration, the needs of D.C. bureaucrats will no longer be placed above those of our veterans.

2. Use the powers of the presidency to remove and discipline the federal employees and managers who have violated the public's trust and failed to carry out the duties on behalf of our veterans.

3. Ask that Congress pass legislation that empowers the Secretary of the VA to discipline or terminate any employee who has jeopardized the health, safety or well-being of a veteran.

4. Create a commission to investigate all the fraud, cover-ups, and wrong-doing that has taken place in the VA, and present these findings to Congress to spur legislative reform.

5. Protect and promote honest employees at the VA who highlight wrongdoing, and guarantee their jobs will be protected.

6. Create a private White House hotline, which will be active 24 hours a day answered by a real person. It will be devoted to answering veteran's complaints of wrongdoing at the VA and ensure no complaints fall through the cracks.

7. Stop giving bonuses to any VA employees who are wasting money, and start rewarding employees who seek to improve the VA's service, cut waste, and save lives.

8. Reform the visa system to ensure veterans are at the front of the line for health services, not the back.

9. Increase the number of mental health care professionals, and allow veteran's to be able to seek mental health care outside of the VA.

10. Ensure every veteran has the choice to seek care at the VA or at a private service provider of their own choice. Under a Trump Administration, no veteran will die waiting for service.

My only disagreement with this is that we have underutilized hospitals in the private sector. Why not just provide all Veterans access to Private and non profit hospitals and close the Va completely? Then private and Non profit hospitals can survive in tuff areas.
