Hey all, just wondering, since this poly motor has big block size will a 383 or 440 bolt up to the k frame? Or will Inneednto get swap mounts for it...thanks.

Anything except a /6 if you have the correct motor mount brackets.

Hemi needs special K too. Otherwise its A, B & RB for engines with the correct engine to k brackets.

Ah good deal. Thanks all, not really familiar with all the poly specs.

The Poly block is no bigger than a LA.
The outside dimensions are identical between the "A" (Poly) & the "LA" engines.

Ithought the poly block was a 90 degree and the la was a 60 degree making it a lot narrower. That is why they never used a v8 in an A body until 64 when the LA was introduced. I know my poly locks as wide as a 440

yea, the Poly 318 is a lot wider that the LA318

No brother, the two blocks side by side naked, you would be very hard pressed to be able to name the which one is which. The lack of freeze out plugs is how you would tell from the outside and the water ports that are at the top of the Poly block inside towards the valley is how you would tell. Otherwise, there are no other differences.

You can swap parts between them.

The way it "looks wider" is the angle of the intake and the size of the Poly head being a larger square block by compare to the LA. At the point where the heads, block and intake meet, this area gives a mirage that it is wider.

Poly's and LA's share many of the same parts. The crank is virtually the same steel crank that is installed in the 273 as are the lighter rods. the bore is larger than the 273 to make the 318. There is an extra hole in the timing cover half way up on the drivers side. Side by side both shortblocks are nearly identical as mentioned above. Even the oil pan and sump tubes will interchange...

Not all Hemis use the same mounts eather. There were lots of different sizes before the 426.
