Remove undercoating

Protect yourself. My welder ended up in the emergency room with an awful rash. He was prepping for the USCartool install in the summer heat without enough protection. It was ugly.

I'm in the middle of stripping out all the trim (and there's a whole lot of it) on my '63 Fury in prep for paint. Also taking out interior. Little rust thanks to a CA life it had and never driven in winter. Though lot's of surface rust inside the quarters and doors with some sections of whatever the heavy coating factory put on that's got chunks missing after 53 years. I need to scrap that off and thinking of putting Extend on it but on the floor pan and trunk want to find a nice product to apply and likely brush on as spray application isn't an option with overspray and ventilation in my garage. Something along the line of Lizard Skin but brush on. Anyone have some ideas nice to hear!

high temp power washer will be the easiest way
heat gun, putty knife and thinner if you don't have the power washer available..

That's how I started it . . . here's the tools that I used to scrape it off . . .

This is why I LUV this site!...THANX EVERYONE...SO FAR !!!!

the ecstasy of victory and the agony of defeat.....

I used a heat gun and a scrapper. then switched to a needle scaler for the hard areas and it worked fine. It did not damage the sheet metal, but I only did the underside....

Needle Scaler from harbor freight while on a rotisserie. worked great

Suppose the same routine for the coating all over the inside of the trunk too?

Vinyl floor tile adhesive remover. Available by the gallon at Home Depot or Lowes. Follow instructions. Brush on and then scrape off easily.

ETA: Also, depending on the thickness in certain areas, the remover may require a second application. In which case, I’ll use just enough around a thinner edge in order to get a putty knife started and pull/break the u/c off in chunks. Hopefully, the remover is still as strong as it used to be. No telling if the EPA forced the alteration of the product over the years.
