Having built many 440 HP engines, I'm currently starting a restoration rebuild on a 1967 440 HP. I'm going to use the stock 915 heads, and am finding that valves, pushrods, and spring part numbers are different for 66 and 67 years than '68-up. Can anyone tell me why...Are the lengths different or what? Thanks...

The 1966 heads had 1.60 exhaust valves. In 66 the pushrods had 1/4 diameter ends to match the lifter socket diameter and 5/16 ends for the rockers. 1967 had a higher performance camshaft, hence stiffer valve springs.

Agreed...But didn't 68-up also?

you will find pushrods were the same on both ends. You'll notice the early ones are slightly longer.

Both 440 pushrods, one from '66 or 7 with the small end and the other is a '68 and later that you can still use today.

Yeah it's pre-1968 that used the pushrods with the smaller end.

67 was the first year for the 440
66 was the last year for 361 in a car

Also keep in mind that in the 413/426/440, they all have the same deck height, so push rod length would be similar. I have used 440 push rods in an early 413 with no probs, but I used the 68 and later lifter with the larger cup. You need to make sure you have the right lifter for the push rod you're using. So push rods with the 1/4" end need the lifters to match.

Yes 67 and earlier used different lifters and pushrods just make sure if you use later pushrods you get the correct lifters.
