finishing up my 512 build. what are you using for pan gaskets?? I'm using a windage tray, but i really don't like using cork!! i see summit and moroso have some rubber ones. would they be too thick having them on both sides of the windage tray??

I won't be much help. I still use Felpro cork (OS 11729 C-1) but will be watching the thread to see what others are using theses days.

I`m using a cheap thick paper gasket w/ a girdle. I`ve got a summit windage tray w/built in gaskets on both sides-w/ crush limiters, if your interested, it didn`t work well w/ the girdle. has about 10 miles on it, and in perfect shape. would be the cats meow w/o a girdle I think. cost $48 if I remember right.

Forgot to mention I also run a windage tray and use the superformance gaskets. I use their rear main seal and intakes. His intake gaskets come in different thicknesses. Nice stuff

I use weatherstrip adhesive to glue the cork ones to the windage tray. Add dabs or ultra grey or ultra black silicone at the timing cover and rear main seal retainer. As long as all surfaces are totally free of grease and oil (even from your skin) they don't leak. I will add oil pan studs are easier to use with the stack of gaskets and tray, but the bolts can be used.

I agree.... I use cork on both the oil pan (2x with windage tray) and on valve covers especially. If you're not using 100% new parts, the mating surfaces get a little bent, especially from over-tightening bolts, and don't seal. The fancy, expensive gaskets (I've tried them all) haven't sealed as well for me as the basic old cork stuff.

anyone know if this will these will fit with a 4.250 stroke crank? the 440 source site says there 512 kit with there rods requires less room than a 4.150 stroke crank with stock rods , because theres are smaller , does this mean i could use the valley tray that says it will clear a 4.150 stroke crank.. i ask this because i can't find one of these valley /gasket trays that says it will work for a 4.250 stroke crank-----"The 4.250" stroke version of our Platinum Series crank used in this kit has the smaller 2.200" (big block Chevy sized) journals to make block clearancing much easier. In fact block clearancing for the 4.250" stroke crank with smaller rod journals is nearly the same as the 4.150" crank with Chrysler sized rod journals,"""

I have now used the superformance gaskets on everything except the oil pan and have to say they have been the best gaskets I have ever used. I will not use anything else in the future because their stuff is that nice.

I've been thinking about that one for the next time I haul my engine out. Any issues? Does it seal up nice and tight?
About 4 years no leak then freshend up engine 2 years ago and reused and still no leaks, and I am picky as hell about leaks.
Originally used it becouse I was replacing the gaskets from Jack stands and one piece looked allot easier than three.
