!969 Plymouth road runner manual steering, manual brakes currently equipped with 727 AT and column-shift steering column from 1968 donor. Will the steering column from a 1969 Dodge Charger work? The mounting bracket looks the same. What should I look for on a used part? Are the break-away capsules included?

Yes, interchangeable. Components may vary, due to options.

Thank you for your response mmissile. I have to find out what it had for a transmission. What would be a fair offer to the seller? I have not shopped for parts for a while.

If I am remembering correctly 1967 is the fist year for the collapsible steering column. So 67-69 B body cars should interchange with only minor differences. The other differences would be if it is a power steering column or a manual steering column as the two piece shaft inside the column are different lengths and the coupler on the end is different. Also if the column is a floor shift unit for 4 speed or console automatic, or a column shift unit. Hope that helps you out.

Check the upper and lower bearings, the lower especially can be rusted/gritty/worn. Break-away washers are typically brittle or broken, replace them. Upper collar can be banged up from mishandling. Ballpark $100 for a 68-9 AT column, complete with collar and wiring.

69 was the first years for ignition switches in the steering column. 68 was still in the dash otherwise columns are simular.

My '69 has the ignition switch in the dash. I'm fairly certain '70 was the first year for the switch in the column. That's why 67-69 columns should be interchangeable.

I must have a 70 column then, thought I had extracted it from a 69. Anyway was installed in a 59 Chevy pickup and now sitts in storage for later use.

70 was first yr for steering column ignition switch. As noted, you'll need a manual steering column as PS column is different dimensions. 67-69 should interchange, B body manual of course.

Thanks to all of you for the information. I went and got it today and will be rebuilding it over the winter. It is in fair condition, nothing a little paint and my time can't fix. Thankfully it came from a Charger with manual steering and should be just fine.

Make sure all the wiring is the same on the plugs.

Did you want to get rid of the 70 column????

That's what i paid CND$100 - also picked up a spare mounting bracket, (refinished in black, but missing the white break-away capsules and mounting hardware) for a $20 bill. If anyone knows where the plastic bits can be ordered from...please post or message me. I am in Alberta, Canada. Thank you in advance for any leads.
