hello all.
I've got a relatively mild 446 in a 3700 pound coronet.
Some info:

-3:23 gear for now. May go to a 3:55 or a 3:73
-2800 stahl turbo action converter
-9.25:1 compression
-Ported 906 heads with 2.14 valves
-Crower solid flat cam 240ish @ .050 (gotta check the sheet for exact numbers) .620 lift
11" of vacuum at idle, in gear
-Holley street dominator intake blended to ported 906 heads.

I have an old AVS and have the typical AVS tuning issues I'm dealing with.
I'm considering a Holley vac secondary like the 3310 (can't find one without the stupid ford AT lockdown lever)
or a 750 DP.

Question is:
For a street driven hotrod, is a double pumper a foolish choice? I've fooled with the carter for over a year and have all the tuning do dads ever made. I don't want to out anymore money into the carter.
Is the 3310 available without the ford specific kickdown apparatus?
Is the 3310 pretty tunable without the secondary metering block and 4 corner idle screws or is it good money spent to buy the 750 with the block and 4 corner idle?

Thanks fellas

the factory avs's aren't bad carbs. i think most of the problems with the carters is people trying holley problem solving with a completely different design. the majority of avs issues are the emissions built into the carb. i have one i simply love, but i did go after the emissions. all this being said and a holley in your future i'd try a 4780DP. i also think the quick fuel 780vs would be a good dual purpose carb. the quick fuel 780vs would be superior to a newer holley 3310.

I'll chime in with just a 780 vac.secondary, should work fine with what you have.

My 383 build is pretty similar to yours, had no luck with an eddy avs... put on a holley street avenger 770, runs great !

Thanks for the replies!

What are guys doing to relocate the coil when using a Holley in place of a carter?

...Started with a small piece of aluminum angle and took the drill and grinder to it, just needs to be cleaned up..I'll maybe paint the cheap chrome coil bracket and use different hardware

Get yourself a 3310 and go with the Edelbrock kickdown adapter. As far as the coil there's a guy that makes an adapter for mounting the coil when running the Holley. Also, you want to flip that AVS?

ARENGINEERING sells a bracket for mounting the coil with a Holley. PM
andyf. He can get you squared away.

Similar sort of build. 850 Demon works good. Street.

also a 770 Avenger on my 383...I prefer a manual choke

You need Holley p/n 20-7 throttle lever adapter to hook up to Mopar cable and kick down.

will this part number work with a 4 speed trans mopar and holley? thanks

If budget allows, might be worth giving AED Performance a call. They are extremely helpful with finding something for your exact application... Or else give em a call and see what you can find out. Good luck, sounds like a fun combo

OK, not sure if this is going to be a popular reply, but I have to add 1 carb to the race, the summit m2008 (they make a 600 and a 750), all I have to say is WOW.. They work awesome and they are inexpensive. Im not sure of all the details, like who make sit for them who designed it if it is a copy of another unit or what, but man, I tried a 600 on a 350 chevy in a plow truck I keep in my yard and it worked really well, so I kept it in my mind.

Then a friend had a mild 340 and was having carb issues, so I pulled it off and threw it on for him (Figured he could borrow it for the summer), but when I asked for it back, he handed me a brand new one, lol... Its still on his motor and it runs great.

I have since installed 3 others 1 is on a 454 chevy and 1 is on a 440 with a lunati (the second cam). THEY RUN GOOD, I would not just throw this out there because I would feel terrible if you bought a carb you hated, but I am confident you will love it. I have a 600 sitting on my tool box right now, Ill take a pic and send it to you if you like to prove it, lol... Its getting installed on a 318 this weekend (or maybe next weekend, I feel lazy this weekend)...

Summit m2008, you will love it..

edit- I never read the reviews, but they are good minus 3 out of almost 60 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-m08750vs/reviews/?filterReviews=FourStar

FWIW, that Summit carb was a Holley produced carb. The 4010 & 4011 square and spread bore carbs. I had the small spread bore. It worked very well.

With 3.23 gears and the combo you outline, a vacuum secondary carb would most likely be quicker than a DP. If it's just a street car that you simply want to run crisp, you can't do much better than a 3310 Holley. If you're looking for ET or want the car to stretch out and roar at all, I'd go bigger than that. An 850 vacuum secondary would probably be the fastest, but you'd give up a little throttle response below 4000 RPM.

750 dp. I believe that most people that don't like Double pumpers have either never had one or they had one in a serious state of disrepair. I can't recall anyone ever telling me that they switched from a vacuum secondary to a double pumper and wished they hadn't. Not that I would recommend an 850 dp on a slant six in a C body with stock converter and 2.76s. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/bb/25.html
