So i have a 63 2 door post savot. This is my first mopar. Well the car had rusted floors, im fixing those now. This car was originally slant 6 with 3 on the column. I now have 2 pushbutton transmission for big blocks and all the pushbutton stuff, etc. I have a v8 k. I can't decide between throwing in a running big block, building a poly motor or a max wedge clone. Opinions?

I changed my '62 convertible from a 318 to a 440. That was twenty years ago. There weren't many performance parts available for the old 318 at that time. If I had it all to do over again I would go with a stroker old style 318. However, based on cost a stock 440 may be the cheaper of the two options.
My '62 sedan was a max wedge look alike. That's a great option but likely the most expensive one.

A tough one to decide! Regrettably, I sold the poly from my 64 Polara convertible due to the cost and lack of performance parts available for it. I think it would have been a cool build to do, but I went with a big block. I have a 1970 440 that I was considering to use but also had a '73 413 that was a good candidate due to its high nickle content and over all condition. Its more expensive as I had to have custom pistons made, but that's really the only added cost. Everything else is the same cost as the 440 would be.
A running motor gets you on the road sooner if that's what you want. You can replace the engine later as budget allows. I'd like to set up the top end with a crossram and MW exhaust manifolds, but my budget is tight at the moment. This adds another $5-6k.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Thank you guys for all the input. Ideally, I want a max wedge under there but that also means a longer time til its driveable....money. im going to be restoring the car anyways. I just like the idea of being able to drive this car soon.

Friend did a poly got it to go 13's with 100 shot of NOS at 5000 ft in the mountains. If you want a Max wedge go 440 with a single 4 barrel. Then save for a A&A 440 crossram. Try to get a four barrel that you can use on the crossram. Friend of mine was going to use the Holley's that are on Hemi crossrams, never got it running. You need to work on idle circuit, IMO to get them to run on street. Seen new 4235's/4236's on ebay as low as $585 ea..

The engine and drive train are the easiest to change down the road ,,,if you want to drive now, pay later,,,put in a engine that you can afford now, drive it ,have fun and maybe start to build what you want (like a 413 cross ram, awsome,in that Savoy)CHEERS

Been down this road plenty. It all comes down to money. As said above you can do the minimum to get it running and driving, then save to build the engine you want.318's thru 440's can be had for not much(not fresh but good running) and abundance of good used parts out there.
Get her on the road and have fun !!

I'd put in a running big block for right now. Wished I could of found a running BB when my poly had problems.
