I have reinstalled my msd box after removing it. I also removed the MSD start and step aswell. (Previous owner was a racer)
I have wired it as per the diagrams i foind on the net.
I think it has to do with the red wire that goes to the igntion. I put it in the old coils terminal and it will crank but wont run. I have removed that wire, put it straight to battery power and it runs but obviously wont shut off.
What am i doing wrong?
I have a 1 wire alternator, the regulator was mounted on the firewall but was not used. I also have a pro billet msd distributor.
Any help would be great as im away for 5 weeks in a few days and its gonna kill me if i cant get it started before then!

I think you need a relay or a Ford type starter solenoid to isolate the alternator output from the battery. That will stop the current flow to the ignition box.

You have obviously installed it wrong or there is something that has changed since it was last in use. To simplify a review of the boxes wiring status I recommend you view this video:

In the event that you cannot resolve the issue, you should really give MSD tech a call.

There are two wires coming from the ignition should be brown and blue. The would normally go to the ballast resister.one is start, one is run. Connect both to the MSD wire. Don't use the ballast resistor.

YOu have to tie the little red wire to "start" and "run" as described above. The ballast resistor will be bypassed.

Awesome thanks!
I had a read of the schematic before and i thoight it may have something to do with that blue wire.

Did you bypass the ballast resistor? with a 1 wire alt u will need to do this. also your not using the original regulator right? it goes away with the resistor

yes once i connected the ballast resistor wires together it started and ran.
Thanks
