I need a choke for my 67 RT. Does anyone know the difference between a 68 -70 440 choke and a 67? The 68-70 looks like it would work and there are plenty available. 67 looks really similar but go for big bucks. Anyone know the difference?

68 has the electronic heating element to the best of recollection

No electronic heating element on '68's, that was later 70+?. Don't know the diff other than that.

the '67 has an AFB carb and the choke itself is different than the later AVS carbs. my guess is that the two hook up differently.

Different length/bends on the rod?? Just a guess. Thanks lwtot184.

RC-- here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't any of us old guys watch TV or leave the computer/cellphone???!!!!!!!!!!

The difference is the two chokes work in opposite directions. The pre 68 closes in one direction,(AFB) and 68 (AVS)up in the reverse. They are not Interchangeable.
The 1967 is worth more money and harder to find. The 67' 440 carb is unique.
The bottom base(attached to the Intake) is big like the newer AVS, but the top has the smaller 4 1/4 opening. That opening by the way is the exact same as all the 383 two barrel carbs. so the bottom base of any 383 2 BBL air cleaner(66-69) will fit the AFB carbs.(60-s thru67) so don't over pay when looking for a bottom base.

Glad someone figured out the obvious AFB / AVS difference between years. What surprises me, is no has commented that the 65-67 273 AFB chokes are the same PN. Doesn't make it easier to find, as that crowd is searching also for it.

the pre 68's chokes are difficult to locate, try looking for an original choke pull-off for the Holley carb. Good luck with that. Look for a Chrysler parts car with the 440, 63-67. they will have that choke.

Another choice is look for pre 68 Stromberg two barrel chokes on 383's. they are too long, but if you remove an 1'8 or so off, you can make it work. They flip in the same direction.
