So I have seen a lot lately advertisements lately with the phrase "has a really nice patina", but I just keep looking at these things thinking is this guy serious? It's is a faded rust bucket that this guy doesn't have the money to dump into, or is a flipper just trying to get way more than it's worth for this POS. I just don't get it. I feel that a car should be restored. Or possibly made into a rat rod, but those still have style and are made to look that way. Most "patina" cars to me are just rats nests. If some one likes a patina car, that's a personal choice and I am cool with that, but please explain it to me as I just don't get it. What are your thoughts?

I think it's a stupid fad. Ads should read..."needs paint". My cars had patina, till I got a decent job.
I don't like rat-rods, either. Rollin' junk.

To each their own.
I like cars that get driven and are clean.
Not a big fan of the rat rod fad
Also, not a fan of the over the top, paint daub trailer queen show car stuff either.

Both extremes seem phony to me.

*** monkey clear coats that **** and tries to pawn it off as cool

if the frame is solid and the body isn't full of holes, why not? i can deal with faded paint and surface rust. they're only original once

Of having both sides, I must say I get more enjoyment driving the "patina'd" car more. There's just something fun about it. You're not worried as much. You just drive it. I get 3 times the people flag me down, cone up to me, or offer to buy than my other one. Now my interior is new and all underneath (rubber stuff&hard lines) is new, mainly for safety and reliability. I never got the fad until I bought one.

Depends what it is. A rusty Road Runner or Bee might not look good at all but a old pick up looks cool I think. Although not Mopars, a friend does these. He is a year or so out with orders and has won awards at SEMA.

What about an old more door? Not any rust out, but cost prohibitive to put a lot of money into. If it were the only project I had I might paint it. Also with cars like this you can tell they are not full of bondo. Thats why some buyers look for them, nothing worse than buying a nice car only to find out it's full of filler.

one of the reasons I like "patina " is that if I'm looking to buy , I can see little to No bodywork , one knows EXACTLY what he is getting into , no hidden crap work. I do appreciate the ones thats put together to look like , well, less than show but are super mechanically sound . What I HATE is cars that have panels flapping in the wind and have no business being on the street ! Sorry if any one you have this type of rod , it's only my opinion

I like it. Show car under hood and clean underneath. (and 4 doors.....no waiting!) It's got it where it counts!

Original "patina" on an authentic survivor example is pretty cool in my opinion.

A rusty car with holes in the sheetmetal is not "patina" in my book.
Also, a worn out old restoration is not "patina".

Like I said in my first post on this, to each their own.

"Patina" just another term for needs paint,
seriously worn paint or pitted windows/trim/moldings,
interior worn/rips tears, faded carpet, crap rubber seals
or in most cases full on rot/rust repairs

a "survivor" or driver quality cars
is a different animal than just "patina" IMO

way over used, fad/term for the ill-informed seller/buyers

to each their own as said earier , I'm not a fan of the "dragged from a field " look .
or for that matter *** monkey's flat back "murdering out " of everything and anything
give me colour and shiny at that ( no that doesn't mean putting clear coat over your rusted out, sunburnt crap )

What gives me the screaming shits is guys who polish the crap out of the exterior paint and get it shiny....then you lift the hood and find a scabby original paint - or worse....black paint hastily done surrounding a blinged out engine.

I'm OK with genuine 'patina', but not with this faking of it. Patina to me is genuine and represents a genuine barn find - another term which is over-used and abused.

Nice patina to me is the same as "excellent condition; for it's age" Also...patina,to me, means ratrod and I have zero stomach for those
