To paint or not to paint?

I`m getting ready to spray a bedliner coating underneath my 70 Bee. Im torn as whether to leave it black, use a single stage color, or to just simply spray a base coat color on it. just want to hear everyone`s experiences with bedliner coatings to help me decide & to see a few pics if you have them, THANKS guys.

That has been my plan, chassis black the frame and cage and use bed liner on the pans...I have also been toying with the idea of getting the tintable liner and going blue with it...
I would really love a slick as glass painted underside just don't want to invest that much time and money to get it... Figured bed liner would help cover the imperfections and at least be something other than black...

I have used the raptor liner in tintable and in black. Both work really nice. The tintable can be made to match almost exactly weather it be metalic etc...
I did my 67 charger with POR15 out of a shutz gun, that gave a really nice thick coating and dried pretty smooth and hard. I also used black raptor on the wheelwells. It came out very nice.
 
On one of my old rides I used the rubberized undercoat over the whole underside. Great looking and good sound deadener. Plus, I drove the crap out of it and it was piece of mind for the elements.

If you ever want the experience of the "PITA" of a painted underside...I have a 16 foot by 6.5 foot base coat clear coat black underside you can come over and wipe down....After that you will have no problem spraying that bedlinen over it, lol....

If your going to drive it a lot, I would do it......If your limited driving it and want a shown car then paint it...
 
I admit that my cars are Sunday night cruisers that don't go out in the rain. I painted the undersides.

I second the Raptor Liner. I have the tintable to go on the underside of my Charger here shortly. I will be finishing the bodywork on the top side and then removing the finders to flip it on the rotisserie to do the liner before painting the rest. I will still be doing rubberized in the wheel wells and on the inside of the fenders as an added precaution/sound deadening. It will look really clean, be super durable, and allow me to drive it and enjoy it.
 
Anyone have a pic of a bed liner coating that has been tinted or painted? I have the bed liner material, just cant decide weather to paint over it or not. Although I do realize the finish will have a textured look to it after paint.

What a timely thread. Glad I searched before I started a new one.

It seems as if the SEM Tintables are a descent choice from what I have found on line. My question is, what do you tint it with? Just a urethane automotive paint? If the base color of the liner is black, it seems as if it would take a hell of a lot of paint to tint it to a lighter color (e.g. light blue, yellow, white!!!). Never worked with it before so I'm curious who else has experience with it.
 
I did the tinted bed liner under the floor of one of my cars (viper red, sorry no pictures) it looks great and I have no worries about driving when it rains. the other car I did black bed liner, ( I did this one first ) and I will go tinted from here on ( it was red too). As stated above, if the car won't see any weather a shiny same as body color is gorgeous. I have one of those too, but I have a lift to put it on to clean it. It never fails, when I take that car out we get a rain storm. The tinted car is very easy ( if there is such a thing ) clean too.
 
I hate it, I absolutely hate bedliner and undercoating under cars. Also I hate dyno mat and anything sticky that is a mother puncher to remove.

I did a 67 charger for a friend of mine, he just wanted it driving, and the bottom was a mess, he wanted it nice under there, the car was silver. So being a nice guy I put the car on my outside lift and while the tank, exhaust, tranny, and all the lines were off, I blasted the bottom, etch/sealed/ss euro in body color the entire thing. It looked great. He came about 2 weeks later to see how we were making out and he seen the bottom , me expecting an impressed face look over to see a confused face, he said didn't you see I bought that bed liner stuff in the trunk... I threw him out of the garage.

That being said, out of all the bedliners out there herculiner is what I used for my truck beds and inside my jeep tub.. nice stuff.

I haven't used the tinted bed liner but I'm under the impression that it's without pigment, like a white or grey tone. You would use base coat to tint.

I'm with SuperB Bee, I'm not a fan of putting all this stuff on the underside or these cars for how they get used and driven today. I'm always supspect that there's something hiding underneath. If it's painted you can tell pretty quick what's going on. Not saying that's what's going on here, but what are you protecting the bottom side of the car from?

I will say this, I sure am glad my GTX was Ziebarted back in the day. The stuff is so nasty and dirty as I clean it off but that car looks like the day it left the assembly line. Greasy, nasty, YUCK!

Oh I hear you. My car had the factory undercoating on it before I had the entire car blasted. I spent good $$$ to get all that crap off the bottom of the car (believe me, it didn't come off easily) and I have been torn about re-coating it with more crap however I will drive mine enough to know that just painting the undercarriage will be too weak, and look like **** in a short while.

I need a solution that's a little tougher than paint. I'm not building a show car that will be propped on 2 wheels with mirrors for all to see the under carriage. Plus the thought of hearing a rock ricochet under the bottom while driving will only make me cringe if it's just paint.

I will be having a dirt nap when somebody else want's to blast it off. Not my problem the way I see it.
 
Yep. You use a urethane paint without binders (the liner has it already) and a little extra tint. The liner is an opaque colorless liquid that you add the tint, mix, and shoot.
