i have it out to restore, what is used to coat out side with?i have the foam kit for inside. thanks

If your heater box is in really good shape and retains the original fiber look then clear it with a matte clear. However, most boxes are beat up through the years and lose that original patina. There is no way to recreate that original finish. So most just spray it with a flat black.

If the original look is what you want than I bid you "GOOD" luck on finding a box with no cracks and the original finish. It took me 2 years and a lot of searching but I did find one.

I must've gotten lucky then. I took mine apart and gave it a good cleaning in the bath tub, looks brand new !

Did you restore the control brackets? The vent on the far right looks rusty a bit....The bracket from the front cover to the cowl is originally natural metal finish and the two nuts were originally black zinc.

Also, did you replace the part number stamp on the front cover? If not you can borrow my stamp if needed, just pay for shipping

The fiber portion looks good...

That front rusty looking bracket was the only one I did not touch. Not sure why honestly. Every other bare metal piece was blasted then clear coated. The front cover was powder coated black. Cables move like butter !
Thanks for the stamp offer, I'll Def let you know on that one !

No problem...

Not a fan of powder coat just due to the inability to touch it up...

If your able to reach it and it is not pitted badly....tape off around it and spray some of this and rub the surface rust off...may take several tries but this stuff works wonders....without blasting, wheeling, etc....and doesnt damage the substrate

Cool stuff, thanks ! I power coated a lot of things on the interior, stuff that is covered and out of sight. Heater cover, seat frames, etc ..... should not need any touch up on those !

For not much more than the shipping you can buy a stamp. I got mine from rubberstampchamp.com

after cleaning, primer, paint, and insulation from DMT.
Just got my heater core and evaporator back from my radiator repair guy. They tested well.
Tomorrow I will finish the reassembling process.

DMT has 2 seal kits, make sure you get the master kit....or what ever their bigger kit is called, if not you'll have to order the passenger side rubber seal that goes b/t the box and fresh air vent

Someone painted mine black so I used that Citru-strip on it and it looks new again. I re stamped the part number on the cover with a stamp I had made by rubberstampchamp.com and used some old yellow lacquer I had on the shelf.
