66 Dodge Charger First Day

Hello, I have been stalking this forum for awhile, I decided to sign up so I could help out with any additional information on 66-67 Chargers.
I am currently restoring a 66 Charger with my dad, it has a LA360 engine with a 600cfm Quick Fuel carb Slayer Series.

Right now the interior is completely taken apart, we only have the old carpet and new front seats in. I am currently restoring the instrument cluster with the EL lighting. There are only 2 needles that are shorted out, and I am having a hard time soldering them. If anybody has any tips, or tricks with soldering those litz wires, that would be appreciated.
We are putting everything back together, little by little, whenever we get any free time.

Welcome aboard. I love 1st gen Chargers. Here is a pic of my '66.
 
Great looking car! Some advice on soldering:
1. The wires or terminals need to be both mechanically and chemically cleaned.
- fine emery paper or steel wool, clean the iron as well.
2. Put a small amount of flux (acid paste on and heat til it bubbles and you can smell the vapor)
- don't sniff too much of the vapor, just stick to beer
3. Use rosin core solder or try and find some old solder that actually contains lead and not a bunch of tin
again if the solder is old clean that as well.
4. An adjustable heat small iron from the sound of it would be good.
5. Put the iron underneath till the flux smokes, then touch the solder on the wires/terminals until it flows into the equipment try not to touch the iron with the solder. If possible you can do the wires individually first it's called tinning.
(Even though it used to always be lead? go figure)
5. Practice on similar size/scrap material.
6. Note that the iron will take at least 5minutes to get good and hot, I would wait 10 minutes.
7. Remember to set the iron on something non-flammable until it cools. So go get another beer.
That's pretty much it.
 
Oh one more thing, use of the breaker point voltage regulator is not recommended with the orange box.
See if you can switch to a two wire alternator and use the solid state regulator from any 70's Chrysler product.
The orange box really should be used with a dual ballast resistor as well.
