Hello all,

I am restoring a '68 2 door Coronet, basically from the ground up. The car came with no front seats. My plan is to keep the car 95% stock, with one of the exceptions being the bucket seats. I can re-upholster old seats, but man the cost of old seats & tracks is just too much. I've got lots of other places to spend money on the car, so I am interested in a pair of aftermarket buckets & tracks.

I would like something that is really comfortable & supportive. The car is a 2 door, so I need seats that both recline and will flop forward so I can use the back seat. I am looking at vendors like Corbeau and Procar, but I'd really appreciate some suggestions on other manufacturers if you have any.

Thanks.

I'm switching to a racing style bucket haven't decided on a manufacturer yet but I've been looking at Braum racing, I'll be posting the buckets from my 67 coronet for sale soon if you're interested shoot me a MESSAGE.

Find some racaros out of a volks wagon, I love them, really well made, I have used them in pro touring projects, really really nice seats, and the tracks will work with little tuning.

If you are going custom interior, buy front and back and use the back fabric to cover your factory rear, and use the headrests from the rear in your rear.. Not sure how far you want to go..
heres a set on ebay

not sure if you like the plaid inset, but that rear fabric is easy to cut into a seat over that you sew up.

I would find them locally obviously to save shipping, I bought a set of vw racaros for $50 at a junk yard and at least 4 other sets for under that.

this set is more money but I have never started with such a nice set my self, since I normally recover anyway, but WOW, http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-MK5-R32-...ash=item3ada99f94b:g:ZKcAAOSwCU1Yp1xt&vxp=mtr

I wouldn't go any racier that that, I hate seeing the full blown fiberbacked racing seats in an old car.

Ive been looking as well, mainly because of my cage and me wanting something a little taller ( headrest). But i really like the ProCars.
They have lateral & neck support but still retain the vintage look.
I rode in a newer Maxima the other day and they had really nice seats. They weren't gaudy or too modern. All black but had blue stitched seams...

The Jegs GS-1 is a nice seat for the money if you want Black

Is the backseat still accessible with the cage? I have to put a cage in my 67 only thing that worries me is the crossbar and not being able to access the backseat.

It can be, my kids go through it easily...:D
Me not so much....Im not going to be racing it so ive actually thought about making it removable, getting the back seat out was a beeeeeiiiaaaaatch!!!
Tiger cage makes fittings where you can totally remove the bar without having tabs. I want my kids to be safe while in it so i really dont want a bar they could hit in an accident. Even thought about putting 4pt belts in the back...
Im also going to change my door bars to something similar in the pic...

I like the fittings idea, wonder if it would pass inspection still, pretty sure I read it can not be removable

I recently installed Procar Rallys in mine and love them. They do fold forward for rear seat access, but not as much as the stock seats. They do however have more adjustability front to back.

I also recommend factory late model seats. Been riding on the buckets from a 1989 FWD Daytona from a yard that were put in in 1989. Nothing beats OEM quality. I use the XVMotorsport 3 point belts. Can be used if you have the roof anchor.

The one for the Coronet remind me of seats in my grandads 82 Chapparal Ski Boat... the first ones you showed are nice...
I agree with you...but wanted to post correct seats for his build. :steering:

Don't forget the interface with the retractor depending on your application. Had to remove the trim to allow the receiver to line up or the belt. Otherwise can be a pia. These now 28 year old seats were one of the best upgrades ever. Comfortable for the last 90 thousand miles and wearing well.

Doug, Hows the coronet coming? What did you end up with for seats. I'm just on the edge of Los Gatos. I bought a Super Bee pro touring project that came with 2006 GTO leather buckets. Not bad seats but not sure how I feel about them. They have GTO stitched in them so that's gotta go. i agree with one of the earlier guys, I had a 2011 VW GTI and those seats were the absolute most comfortable seats I have ever had in a car. I've had lots of cars and several of them were Audis and those VW seats still are the most comfortable. I've thought about getting some leather seats from a 2 door GTI for my Bee. I wish there was something out there that had a more retro look to it but modern internals and comfort. The procar rally ones are nice looking. I've never sat in one. But you see them all over.

If you're not going for something super sporty, sit in some newer cars and try salvage yards. Volkswagen Jetta and GTI have supportive seats with good shapes to them. Jettas have a nice bolster to them for being a plain-Jane sedan. The VW CC is about the most comfortable seat I ever sat in if you want to do some wiring--they're all electric. Just a thought. Good luck!
