been back and forth on this a bit . To use undercoating or truck bed liner under a 67 rt it has factory undercoat but wanted to clean it up and protect it

I vote regular undercoat. That bed liner stuff will need blasted off if anyone ever wants it off in the future. If your going to drive it year round in all weather conditions then the bed liner might make sense.

I've been tossing around the same question . . .

- 1 - I really think that a painted undercarriage on a car looks incredible ( shows the amount of effort )
- 2 - After 6 months of working on my car to clean the "stuff" off, do I really want to put it back on ?
- 3 - Maybe putting bed liner in the wheel well to protect them from all the possible rock chips ?

I don't have my answer . . . yet . . . either . . . ( still working on the car )

Good luck with your decision . . .

I had thought about using a bed liner product under the front fenders on my 65, decided not to because I like the painted surface. I wish I had now, I got 2 little stars on top of my left fender from rocks being flipped up by the tire. You really need something to protect the front and rear wheel wells unless you're not planning on driving it.

Neither are easy to remove if you ever change your mind in the future, I say undercoat it and put a coat of chassis black paint over it.

Here's a pic of the progress I've made in mine, cleaned the undercoating then soraued it with chassis black. I'll snap more pics when I get back in the garage.

no I wont be driving it in bad weather ,reason I was thinking bed liner I have it in all my work trucks and it is so easy to clean up even with hauling tons of debris it looks like new with a pressure washer thought it would stay nice clean and black

I like the idea of just a good quality paint. Looks cleaner and it's easy to touch up if need be. Use a coating of rubberized undercoat just in the fender wells for sound deadener.

I'm 99% sure I'm going with the Raptor bed liner... Not a show car, or rare so I don't care who has the car after me.
I just want something that's going to last, I guess they both will depending how well you prep, but figured the bed liner be better sealer...

I used Color matched raptor liner. Mine is Viper silver (you add 10% base coat per bottle) Looks good and hides some imperfections but it is forever.

I thought about buying the tintable kit but it looked more baby blue than I wanted...can you use any brand basecoat?
The Raptor kits come with a schutz gun made for thier containers PRDN
Looks very nice!

I think it works with any base coat as long as its solvent based. I used PPG Deltron. 1 recommendation I have is spray a coat or two of base on the metal under the tinted Raptor liner and it will match the base color more closely. I sprayed silver tinted Raptor over Gray epoxy and it did take on a gray undertone. I did sprayed silver base on the inside of the quarter panels and it's definitely more silver. Here a couple Pics of the inner quarters with silver base under Raptor for comparison. And by the way if you plan on going this route you'll need about 6 bottles for two good coats.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips 2Quick! That would be close enough to my liking!!!

I think thats the way im going to go also, mines a white car its not getting totally torn down like yours was and does have factory undercoat I wonder if the raptor liner would cover and stick to it also?

I would go with the rubberized undercoating. It stays good and protects good. It's also easier to remove if you choose to later on.
Painting is great if your in SoCal or Zona. If your in the Midwest or any rural environment, paint doesn't protect from rocks

If you take a look at my post for my 1969 Roadrunner Post Coupe Restoration, I had Line X brand bed liner installed. I went with black because I am painting the car Lime Green and will be exploiting the green and black theme. I completely grinder and wire wheeled the bottom after glass blasting and the took it to my local Line X dealer on a rotisserie. They sprayed it for me for $850. Can you do it cheaper (absolutely), but after watching the prep work and the enthusiasm on the guys face doing my car, I felt comfortable. Took lots of time and really did a nice job.

Local paint supply shop wanted $300 for the materials and then I needed a gun. To me, after getting it spotless, I didn't want to screw it up. Definitely made the right choice. Looks awesome.

Was that 6 bottles for underside and inside the trunk? I had calculated 4 should do the undercarriage fine (not spraying it inside the trunk), would you say that's enough for 2 coats or should I get 2 more bottles?
