hello, Just beginning restoration on a 1973 roadrunner, 340 four speed car. So far my 15 year old son is very interested and has been a great help!

( just have to feed him). I've been thinking of putting a 400 in it, would appreciate any tips on that . Trying to save the original green interior parts that are painted black, had some luck with brake fluid, but slow go. may have to repaint? Sending chassis to the media blaster next week.. hopefully.

If you go with a big block motor you will have to change the torsion bars... maybe other parts of the suspension as well.

what do you recommend for media? I've got crushed glass

That is what I used except on the torsion bars, I was told to just clean and paint them.

Sorry, I was still thinking suspension. For the chassis I used chemical stripper and didn't have it blasted at all. I was going to use a place that does wet blasting but the timing was not going to work.

Welcome will be great looking car when finished.Glad to here your son is interested and helping you

Nothing wrong with a 73 Roadrunner with a 340, I love mine. Welcome to the forum, I feel your pain, my car was a complete rotisserie restoration! My interior was repainted all white, because it was so faded, so if you don't want to do green, you can change to another color.

for all the trouble of changing to a mild big block 400, you could get the same HP with a 5.9, and better weight distribution.

Welcome

good luck with that project

My first car was a 1973 Satellite Sebring Plus with a 318. I have a soft spot for these b-bodies.

Did you do a fender tag decoding?

I agree with the other posters. Love the 340 engine. I'd run with that.

A 340 car is fairly rare. Especially in 73, with a 4 speed. If it was a 318 car, then hell yeah swap in a big block (exactly what I'm doing with my 73 Charger). But since it's a 340 car, it would be worth keeping it that way. If you don't have the original drivetrain, then I guess you could throw together a 408 stroker using a 360 block, but dress it up with the 340 emblems. Kinda like a sleeper car.

Thanks for the advice! I like that idea! 340 sleeper it is!

I can't wait to hear that screaming small block! If you need some parts, PM me. I have a couple things here and there for 73-4 satellites and roadrunners.
