Moser 8 3/4 Axle Housing

I was checking this out last week, ended up going with a dana from dr diff, you should give him a call. I'd be willing to bet he has exactly what you need.
Hello 1967coronet440 i do like the Dana but its a little to heavy for me, trying to stick with a 8 3/4 style housing not just the weight, but the versatility of swapping the center section, i go back and forth from 4:10 to 4:56 one is for the street and the other for the Track, I've even gone with the 4:88 for 1/8 mile, plus i can do it my self in the garage.

Yes, I installed the Moser fabbed 8.75" rear-end last November. No problems with it. Like you, I appreciate that I can drop the pumpkin myself.

How fast is your car and are you using a trans brake or stick shift? If you're twisting the housing, you have enough power to shave the teeth too....unless you're using 'pro gears' which are made from a different alloy than street gears. Street gears are made with harder materials for long life on the street but are a bit on the brittle side for serious drag race launches. The 60 averages around 40 lbs heavier than the 8 3/4 but if you do not know how to set up gears, than the 8 3/4 will be easier for swaps. On the other hand, once you set up gears in the 60, you can pull them out and tag the shims and box it then when you're to reinstall them, you can slam em back in just as fast as swapping out an 8 3/4 chunk. Once a set are done and you want to pull them, just keep the shims with gears and tagged....and a bone stock Dana will take plenty of abuse.

Same as mine. We have enough mild cut right now to make 10 more but can make them Chromoly as well.

As you can see using a thicker axle tube too

Back in 82 a buddy and I were trying to get a 69 roadrunner 4 speed into the mid 10's and run Super Street. Back then, no one was running electronics and this thing was consistent and .50x lights were happening. Anyways, the car was going low 11's at the time and was leaving at 6k. That's when we started shaving the ring gear. Shortly after getting into the high 10's and was about to replace the chunk for the 3rd time, we decided to just throw in a 60. End of story :D The extra weight didn't show up on the time slip either....

Dana 60 will be the next one on the list if this don't work out, but tell you what if i had a 9 inch at Famoso Raceway i could of had my car back on the road almost instantly, everyone seems to be running it, well not everyone, i wont ! personally i love my 8 3/4 i have 4:10, 4:56, and ran 4:88 ! What are the best ring & pinion gears to run??, some say Pro-Gear

Yup, a lot of people run it but back in the 80's, there wasn't that many running a 9 and I'm with you about running one lol. Also, unless you're running all the aftermarket beef up parts in the 9, it's really not all that much stronger than the 8 3/4 but someone along the line decided that it should be the one to build an after market upon and it snowballed. And yes, a pro gear for racing is what takes the shock loading better than the harder street gears. At one time you could get gears made for racing for the 8 3/4 but don't think you can anymore but even then, they were limited to only few ratios. That's another plus for the 9....there's a ton of different gear ratios available for it not to mention everything else you can buy in the aftermarket to make it stronger and with CRAPCAR using it too, the parts availability is almost limitless. It's all about $$$ though. When we stuck in the 60 in the roadrunner, all we did was slam in a 4.88 on a spool and left the stock axles in it. Did that for nearly a year before some new tech guy at our home track noticed the axles were not aftermarket and said no more. Don't remember the spline count on the stockers and I'm not one to skirt safety rules but 6k launches will tell you pretty fast if the axles ain't up to par lol
