Question on bc/cc. Should the paint have clear coat on roof
before putting vinyl top on? Is it a waste of material to also clear
coat the roof considering the vinyl top is being put on over it?
Will the base coat be enough to seal the roof? Will the vinyl top glue stick any better whether it's applied on a clear coated surface or on just the base color with no clear coat? Thanks. George

Either way is fine. The base coat "should" be enough, but we've all seen/heard of how bad vinyl roof cars get rusty under the vinyl top, so the clear would help "a little". The glue will stick to either clear or base. I'd say clear coat the car & only spray the roof if you have extra clear left over.

Thanks for the help. To clear things up. The body paint is perfect. I did some work on the roof. Everything came out perfect. Ready to spray the roof. I have some OMNI MBC acrylic base paint. Was going to spray the roof with the Omni.
Since a new vinyl top is going on, did not think I would need go the extra step to clear coat the paint. If I need to I will clear it. Don't know if it's necessary. Spec sheet says to clear. In the end the vinyl top is covering everything up.

I would put a few coats of good epoxy on it and call it a day. Base coat only colors and offers no real protection.

Me,
I want something more than primer or sealer under that top, all three, primers, sealers , and base coat are in need of each top coat in step, Finish with at least one good wet coat of clear before the top goes on. Scuff it after drying is complete { at least a couple days } with a red scotch bright then use a good grease & wax remover and dry before the adhesive.

If your going to use BC up there I would want it closed up with CC.

Scuff it like 1967Coronet said before you install it.
