What does the oil pressure sensor look like?

Can't locate it anywhere, previous owner fitted a mechanical oil gauge so maybe it was removed. Just trying to reinstate if possible.

Is it a big block? If so, it would be located behind the intake manifold rear most part of the block right in front of the transmission bellhousing on top. just about at 12 oclock.

Just slightly to the driver's side.... at the EXTREME rear edge of the block. There will be a small, threaded hole....maybe 3/16"'ish in size. The oil sender itself looks like a small can about 4" long & 2" diameter, rounded on the top with a single "slip on" male electrical connector.

Sometimes these are on top of extensions for clearance issues.

Depends if you have an actual oil pressure gauge or an idiot light. The sensors are different for both.

This is all I have in situ so I reckon I'll need to get a new pressure gauge, presume it goes in this same outlet hole and replaces the oil feed?. No idea what an idiot light is but I have a gauge.

If you have a gauge then you need the round can like looking sender in the picture shown previously. If you had a warning light, the sender would be a small disc about 1/2 inch thick with a black bakelite top with a terminal on top.

There also should be a wire pigtail coming out of your wiring harness on the firewall right in that area to power it.

There is two ports there. You can run both mechanical line in one port and the electric sending unit in the other port. I believe they are two different sizes.

If you zoom on this pic you can see it and the wire running to it in the back on my car.

I have a gauge but it's a mechanical version so I just have the oil tube coming from that port. I reckon the factory gauge is shot so I'll have to stick to the mech, are they as accurate?

Oh good stuff I'll leave the mech in place then and get a new sensor and if it brings the factory gauge back to life then happy days and if not at least I'll know.

The mechanical gage is MORE accurate than the factory gage. You can get a "T" and run your factory electric gage with the sending unit in my picture above + the existing line you've got in the hole now...you "might" need some gage fitting adapters for sale at any auto parts store. Mine is set up this way. I had some type of clearance issue and had to put my sending unit & "T" on top of an extension tube which I bought long ago...still available online I'm sure.

Thanks all, I got my lovely new sensor today and I was hoping to find the cables to connect it up just sitting and waiting for me, silly me!

It has an unusual connector at the top, do you guys have a photo of what this connector looks like and where it runs from the sensor into the firewall?

I am hoping to run the factory gauge and leave the mech version in place too as a back up to make sure the factory is accurate and reliable. (once I can find the two holes in the block)

The ports on the back of the block are fairly easy to see, they are 1/8" pipe thread, not sure of metric convo though :). Hopefully the previous owner (s) did not cut the sending wire, they just tucked it back up in the harness that goes on the firewall. I think the colour of the wire is going to be gray, at the end of the wire its going to have a spade type connector on it which in turn slides over the the fitting on the end of the sender. Depending on what kind of clearance you have back there you might have to get some adapters as mentioned by others to get things to fit. If you have a FSM you could look at the wiring section to aid you in getting things hooked up.
