My Buddy has a 1974 Charger 2 Dr HT with 318. His heater only blows hot air and only out the defrost vents no matter what the controls are set too. Any ideas where to start looking?

Thanks

Steve

did he verify that the controls are connect the the heater box correctly, so when he moves from heat to cold it moves the heater box vent door and from floor to window vent.

first he has to verify that the control connections are attached to the heater box, if they are not connected that is his problem. If they are connected he will have to get up underneath the dash and he can move the controls or have somebody move the controls to see if the connections are moving on the heater box

interested, Mine is doing the same thing, A/C car, and fan turns on low to high and the vent to defrost works correct.
Throw out suggestions I'm listening.

Any Ideas from anyone? Im stumped

Check all off the vacumn lines.
There is a system of lines and actuators.
It's difficult to repair without removing the heater box from the car. You may get lucky though.
I'm guessing the vacumn or actuator to the heat door and/or defroster is malfunctioning.
You could probably get by with removing the seats and part of the dash to see if things are working correctly.
I just removed/overhauled/reinstalled the heater box w A/C in my 70 Bee. It was a chore even with the interior gutted.

Believe the heater door is cable driven all other doors are vacuum.
The cable should connect to the door lever on the top side of the box. Many have to remove the glove box to see it.
