I personally "LOVE" my Lincold DUAL MIG welder
Dual voltage (120/240)
Be advised if you purchase from a Home Depot OR Lowes, those Welders are NOT the Heavy Duty ones that are sold by Praxair, Lincoln distributorship.

Is there a way to tell which models are home depot/ Lowe's?????

Yeah don't buy it at any of those locations lol. It's true just like buying a Husqavarna or Stihl chainsaw, the Lowes and Tractor Supply models are a homeowners grade and won't be built as well as the one you buy at the dealerships. Go to a welding supply store and you'll get a better unit. Mines an SP135 Lincoln, they change the model #s often so I'm not sure what the new model # is but it's been a good little welder.

Not true
Check your facts before stating FALSE INFORMATION
Lowes/Home Depot sell a "watered down version" of what something like a DUAL Handler 180, they are for SEVERE DUTY applications

Aw c'mon 747mopar, your smarter than that!

And yeah, the 135 is a "Good Little Welder"

If your just doing light duty tasks around the home etc, they are fine.
Crying out loud, just go to Harbor Freight for something like light duty stuff....

Here is one difference for you and 747mopar:
-

They absolutely are made by Lincoln. the main difference is that Home Depot (and Lowes) only sell the tapped transformer models under several different model names. If you want one of the variable power models (my personal choice) you need to go to eBay for a good price, often with no tax and free shipping or to your local welding dealer (if you wish to pay full retail, plus tax).

So: yes, there are differences
Again, Lincoln/Century and Hobart produce a "sub" model that is "Good for Home and light Duty" stuff,

I know a good bud who Fabricates "Daily"
He is currently using the MiG and TiG from Eastwood, he purchased a combo deal, GREAT price and uses the heck out of them.
He also picked up the Plasma Cutter from them, so, it is all up to you.

PAS: Search the forum, there is more posts on this item
Remember: There IS a difference....

Again from the Welders Forum:
"I asked lincoln about this. They said my dealer was right. Their are two listed welders but one was commercial grade the other residental grade. Same rating on both but one a little more heavy duty for longer life and continous use. Not sure about everyone else but I am sure I have seen this before on other products."

Also, this is the DUAL 180:
This is the one like mine and fellow forum member Glenwood owns...
A great versatile unit!

I've had 120v and 240v mig welders. Both Lincoln.
I sold the 120 and bought the 240v because the 120 wasn't really good for anything more than shetmetal and exhaust work.
I have an SP 180 and it doesn't miss a beat

Thanks so much appreciate it

Guys I never welded mig before was a car tech for 24 years now a heavy truck mech most I've done is torch and hanger.....just seeing what could I get to practice and not have to pay someone or borrow one for like car stuff maybe a fence repair and light duty stuff......

I just grabbed a welder from a friend f'd around liked it and was able to remove a broken stud from my head and now I'm hooked.......

A good welder is one of those tools that once you own one you will wonder how you ever got by without one.

Am I missing something here? You tell me to check my facts but turn around and verify what I said. Nowhere did I claim that they were not made by Lincoln, Hobart, etc just that they weren't built as well which you just stated in this post????:poke: You state one is commercial and for continuous use..... I spend hours upon hours welding a trunk pan and quarters on so wouldn't I want that, doesn't that make my case?
I've got the homeowners grade Husqavarna, (bought at lowes) made by Husqavarna but is a piece of crap... Chinese carb, rubber lines, no tool required chain adjustment that throws chains... needs tuned every year.... Then we have the professional grade Husqavarna at work that gets the crap beat out of it and runs and runs with zero maintenance....
I know my facts, I research before I buy maybe I'm just picky?

The ones from the welding shop has metal drive the ones from the home improvement store doesn't. Also when you buy from a welding store a lot of times they have a welding class for you to go to after you buy one from them. I just bought a millermatic 215 it's 110/220 Stick weld, Mig and DC Tig so no welding aluminum. I had a H.F. but the plastic drive broke so I steeped up and bought a good welder this time. So it comes down to do you want blue or red so look at the features vs cost. On top of that my new welder welds better than the HF welder ever did. Plus buy good wire as it feeds better.
