looking at buying a 66 charger, it has a transmission but the engine is missing. question is will a newer like a 2010-2014 5.2 bold up to that transmission?? I'd like to upgrade to new engine and fuel injection

What engine and transmission did the car have originally?

On another note....
I have a car that needs a windshield. Will one from a car work?My car is red. Does that make a difference?
Hey man! If you want help, you will need to be specific. I seriously doubt that any one here is a mind reader.

Let's put it this way, whatever combo of engine and transmission went together originally, that's probably the combo you should use. The engineer's at Chrysler did all the figuring for you so you wouldn't destroy either easily. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link and that's how your car will pan out sending 425 h.p. to a tranny that is rated for 325.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link and that's how your car will pan out sending 425 h.p. to a tranny that is rated for 325. Build according to engine torque and horse power and that includes the tranny, driveshaft and universals and diff.

Boy did I get excited when I read the Title of this thread! "Will It Fit" & "Just the Tip" are my favorite games to play! HAHAHA

Well now that you beat me up some! If I buy the 66 charger I'm looking at, I'd like to put in a newer engine 5.2 something like 2010-2014 with low mileage under 20k in to the charger. it was a 318 auto from the factory
was wondering if the old tranny would bolt up to a new engine?

Im pretty sure you know this but if you didn't a 5.2 is the "new or common word" meaning a 318 just like 5.9 means a 360 or 361... but to answer your question, it all depends on how much Hp it is putting out so you don't go making lava out of it... so ask the guy what transmission it is like a 727, 904 etc, then you see the Hp the engine puts out then you go from there, if the engines Hp is in good range for the transmission to take then you start looking at bellhousing adapters so amke the engine work with the transmission...

Hope this help sum...

On another note, i'm quite new at this so if im wrong i'd like to know from someone more experienced than me...

I have a great running Poly 318 in my '66 Charger. Going to pull it soon to install a 440. Would sell it to you when I pull it. Would even let you come try it out before I pull it. It has been upgraded to a 4bbl intake and carb, and gets great mileage. Runs as good as any modern 318 and would bolt right in

well without even knowing what was in it I can tell you a newer setup will not bolt in with out major modifications.
what you have read here is correct, get something close to what was in the car. The 318 that was in 66 was a poly, not the same as a newer 318. meaning 67 and up.
having said that 383s are plentiful and out there and will bolt up to a 727 no problem.
Being a small block, my guess is you'd be able to find a 360 small block and yranny in a yard fairly priced.
just a couple suggestions.

Would include air cleaner, carb(edelbrock 600 cfm), alt & bracket, power steering pump and bracket all pulleys, belts, ignition, and exhaust manifolds for $850. It will bolt right up to your car and would save you the headache of tracking everything down. Will even throw in an extra poly and 727.
The one pictured doesn't burn any oil, doesn't run hot, and starts as good as any fuel injected engine

It's still In the car If you want to test drive it. I think I can pull it out, with your help in a couple of hours.
