Was going to cover the concrete pillars in the garage with some thick reddish smooth rubber mat material I saw at Ace Hardware. Comes in different thicknesses and is a little pricey but sure to prevent a disaster.
But alas, before my plan was realized I found my driver's door up against a pillar. Don't know if it was the wind, a ghost, or stupid me.
An inch and a half vertical "gash" right smack dab in the middle of a recent Bahama Yellow one stage acrylic enamel (with hardener).
Time to get out the touch up paint that may or may not match. Found a German product thst might help me out called "Quixx".
I will wait to begin repairs as soon as I recover from the shock and explore the remedies/options available.

I feel for you Dibbons - I'm just waiting and worrying in advance for my first one. To be prepared I bought some matching paint and clear pens from somewhere - I don't remeber where. Good luck with the touch up.

After 12 years, I have only one tiny ding in my 67. The best part is....I didn't put it there. I refuse to have it removed, as I believe it has "warded-off " other damage.

Driving a freshly painted car is a nerve wracking experience. It wasn't until I got a few scratches in my car before I was relaxed enough to enjoy driving it.

First one is tough, after that it's a breeze.

I get chips and scratches in my cars.
I touch them up.
Sometimes I repaint a whole panel.
Like if the one in your door was bad enough.
Paint the whole door.
Then finally sooner or later, I paint the whole car.

I feel your pain, first month after my car was finally on the road, I was driving on the highway, when a mid 80's firebird with t-tops lost one of its tops right in front of me, thankfully the top missed my car, but since it was glass when it hit the road, it exploded little squares of glass everywhere, and I couldn't avoid them, so I have some small chips on the nose of the car because of that. The body shop was able to buff out the ones that were not deep and its hard to see the others, but its inevitable that it will get chipped or scratched. Bummer about being in the middle of the door however! Good luck with the fix!

36 years ago painted car some chips, me? Dents only one. My 5 year old daughter decided door wasn't open wide enough bang.
Have a couple of stiff drinks, and make a plan to fix it. Sure sucks with fresh paint.

Did not find "Quixx" at the local Autozond store (Mexico). I will post photos of the scratch and "repair" as soon as I gather the materials I need. But I will say this, after about 3 days I got over the shock of the first scratch and a comfortable peaceful feeling overtook me, like a little voice saying "everything is going to be alright".

Yeah I remember when I got my first scratch a week after it was painted. Took a bit more than touch up paint. But hey it happens.

Here's my neoprene "bumpers" from ACE Hardware that I planned on putting up before the scratch, better late than never.

Any progress on the scratch or are you just hanging out for now? Those pillars look nasty - good idea to cover them like you did.

I could not find Quixx locally nor would anyone ship it to me. Went back to the local body shop that painted the car two years ago and let them deal with it. They told me they filled in the scratch with a dab of body putty and repainted an oval pattern on the center of the door.

They also said the the paint I took them to use from the original paint store supplier (who mixed me a quart [Dupont/Axalta Chromacryl] which supposedly matched the original spray) was too light. So someone outside the body shop (don't know who) "matched" the color with an unknown (to me) brand/formula. After it gets buffed out I will post the repair fotos.

After the incident of my kid denting my car and lally column in the garage. I said if I ever build a garage no columns. Well I built 28'x28' garage no columns 28' I-beam. I have a flat roof with deck on top. So if there is 2 feet plus of snow on deck a temporary column goes in.
Can't wait to see how repair turns out.
