I am rebuilding my 76 TF 904 Trans and am to the point of putting the clutch packs together. I just want your opinion on clutch clearance and if you have the exact specs for this transmission. Front Clutch: I took a feeler gauge from the top of pressure plate to snap ring and measured .175". From what I have been reading that seems like too much clearance. There are 4 clutch discs in the forward clutch. Thanks for any help.

.012"-.015" per friction is preferred. So total should be .048"-.060". Adding a extra steel between the back side of the pressure plate and snap ring to act as a spacer will get you close around .090". Combine that with a thicker snap ring.

Thanks Doug, I found out it was mechanic error and I swapped the front and rear clutches so now I have a clearance of .060" with the right clutches installed.
I took apart the rear clutch and there was no spacer ring installed. (car only had 1st and 2nd when bought) Do you know where is a good place to find parts like that for these. That does not come in any rebuild kit and am having trouble tracking one down.

So new question same trans. I have a 71 charger and have found out once removing the trans that the trans is out of a 76. I have a 1971 service manual and it shows a clutch spacer ring on rear clutch between the pinston spring and wave spring. The spacer ring is not in there when I disassembled and when I was looking for it online I found an exploded view and it does not show the spacer ring for my year trans. Can anyone post an exploded view of the rear clutch assembly for a 76 904?
Thanks

727 uses a spacer. 904 does not.
