Since I'm only in the USA a couple months out of the year, I'd like to do away with my dual quad setup on my 67 plymouth and try something more reliable. I've got 413 stroked to 477, 452 heads, comp cam (@.50 364/364, 110 separation), ~11.7:1 compression. Any ideas for the best intake/out-of-the-box single 4bbl combo without hood modification?

what kind of dual quad are you using? make the the ignition and related parts are in proper working order before spending money.

413 mopar cast dual quad intake with two 750cfm edelbrocks on top. Ignition is MSD 6AL box with MSD distributor. If I lived in the USA full-time, I would keep this setup and tinker with it to get it right. However, I would really rather have a more straightforward setup that's easier to tune so I can spend more of my limited time having fun with it.

if the intake throttle bores were not machined for those carbs then they're a poor choice. on top of that the primary side of the carbs are butt ugly rich as they come out of the box. i use a ch28 with a pair of 600's and am very well pleased with the set-up. a newer 4bb intake will make more power than the factory 2x4, but may not fit under the hood too, but will cost $700-$900 for a new complete set up. you can probably re-jet the 750's for $50, or find some smaller used carbs on the cheap. 500cfm edelbrocks won't do anything a 600 won't do. the 600 type carbs have throttle bores that will fit the intake. the secondary throttle bores on all edelbrock carbs are large for the factory secondary bore holes in that intake. cheapest solution is the ch28 intake.

The carbs I'm using now weren't new when I acquired them, but I have jetted, re-jetted, changed metering rods, etc without ever really being able to dial them in effectively. It's true that I'd have to shell out 700-900 for a new setup, but the intake I have is worth some money, as well as the carbs, linkage, tune kit, and hemi-style chrome dome air cleaner. Again if I had more time to tinker with it, I'd stick with the dual-quad for sure, but a single-four just seems like a more feasible option.

Torker is good, an old TM7 if you can find one is really good, with low hood clearance.

Just wondering if you have a AFR Gauge, This thing will help you tune your car like a Pro ! No Joke !!

Yea, I have been considering a Victor or Torker.. any thoughts on a carb? I already know a bit about how to tune Edelbrocks, not sure if Holleys are less finicky...
