Have a 73 rr clone looking to drop a 383 in it. Is it possible to get in the 13's if so what set ups can I use? Cam, gears and stall?

Wont be hard at al
My coronet got into the low 13's with .484 purple shaft, performer intake, 800 carb, 2800stall

I never raced my 70 Bee, but it hung with several 13 second cars on the street.

9.5:1 383, 284/484 cam (there are better choices now) stock converter and 3.55 rear.

The carb was a franken-holley 650 main body with a 750 secondary fuel system.

...and bias ply 12" rear tires!

What gears did you have in the rear end?
Had a 3.91 gear, I'll note that the carb was too big for the motor and gear wasn't good for highway use. Probaly would've went faster with a better intake and smaller carb

You think 3.55s could work with the same setup?

E street heads $1087
Summit K6401 cam kit $118
Trick flow head bolt $70
Head gaskets $55
Summit timing set $65
Performer rpm intake used 150-200
Headers used $100
Carb used $100-200
Electronic ignition kit $199

Thing will probably bang off 12s with a strong shortblock, 3.55 gears, tires and 2800 converter

Now I know my engine is rated at a 10:1 compression so could I possibly run a cam with a .509 lift and 292 duration with the same gears and stall
Yes, It may call for a certain minimum gear and stall so just make sure you have everything you need to run that cam. Is that the mopar purple shaft cam you're looking at?

That's what my dad recommended to me but I was also looking into comp cams because they have the full valve train kits and it seemed like I could save a little money with that full kit and replace everything

If you don't have the 383 in the car, take the heads off do pocket porting, low .500 lift 235 ish @.050 cam, 3.91 gear with a 28" tire & a good 10" converter.

Go with a comp set up, or lunati.

I have the cam & converter you need. Comp XS274 & a 10" Turbo Action 10" about 3500 RPM stall. My car was built for the street, I'm putting the parts in for drag racing, so the cam & converter are not really what I need.

Mine may have been an anamoly but it ran 13.35 when new with nothing but a little tweaking on carb& timing. Course that was awhile ago(late '68,early '69) used to always wonder why the RR's didn't seem quite as good!

That does seem quite good for a stock 383 without mods.
