When I bought my car it had Flowmaster 40's on it and it droned so bad I wouldn't drive it without earplugs. I quickly replaced them with Dynomax Ultraflows and it reduced the drone to a somewhat acceptable level, but still had a "sweet" spot in 3 gear that was tiresome. Fast forward to last week and I had a set of QTP electric cutouts installed and no more drone!! If you just open the cutouts a little bit not only does the car sound GREAT, it also has zero drone.
If you open them 1/2 to full they are VERY loud, but still don't seem to drone. I took it out for a long drive this afternoon and it was the most enjoyable drive so far :D

Good deal. Enjoy your ride

Good to 'hear'. :)

When I saw your title, I expected to find out that you had shot your neighbor's spy drone out of the air or something like that...

I have Flowmaster Super 44's with 2 1/2" exhaust pipes , X pipe, 2" tailpipes , 440 engine. Boom matt and heat duct insulation from firewall to back of rear seat. full carpeting. What is this " drone" you all speak of? Love my Flowmasters and sure as heck ain't gonna scrap perfectly good mufflers ................................MO

Love my flow master 40 series Delta. Maybe now that you discovered the "fix" with the dumps, you should put the flow masters back on! Cheers!

I absolutely love the sound of Flowmasters. I have an 03 Mustang with Super 44s, and have always loved how they sounded on Mustangs. Right now the Charger has a 2 1/2" TTI exhaust with an H pipe and headers with the Dynomax mufflers. It sounds good but one thing that I really want to do is change the mufflers to a set of 40 Series Flowmasters. I know that its going to drone but I'm hoping that lining the inside with Dynamat will help. I don't mind with the Mustang because its a street/strip car, but the Charger is going to be a cruiser...I just really like the sound of the 40 Series...

I have FM Super 44's I also have Boom Matt and furnace duct insulation from firewall to back of rear seat . I like my Flowmasters and don't know what the "drone" is. I would like to know what the Dynomax's sound like for comparison. ..............................MO

Does your car have a cross over? Usually a crossover will get rid of drone. Just curious.

I do have an X-pipe.
I do have new rear quarters and they don't have any sound deadening on them like they come from the factory. I wonder if that was contributing to the drone?

I like the sound of flowmasters from outside the car. But I hate the inside droning. What blew me away, is how good the cheapo "raptor" turbo mufflers from my local NAPA sounds. They have a deep rumble, with a little crackle with high a high rev, and have almost no interior resonance.

Same thing I did. Took the old flow bastard 40's off and tossed them in the dumpster. Then I bought some el cheapo $30 Summit turbos and couldn't be happier. No resonance, just a nice deep sound with a little crackle. At speed they quite down real nice.

At the time I wasn't so sure how they'd sound so I bolted them on. Now I don't think I'll weld them, this way if they rot out, I'll toss them in the dumpster and throw on a new pair.

Here's a short drive by video with the cutouts open about 1/2 way under normal acceleration.
