70 Roadrunner tail panel

So here's one for you Roadrunner experts. My 70 has holes drilled on the tail panel around the lights and following the center groove or contour. It looks like a moulding goes there like on the satellites. C mouldings around the rear light and the full center section connecting each side like o. The front grill. What's up with that. Talked to Herbie at Herbs and he said his father bought a new 70 back in the day and had the same moulding package. He thinks it was dealer installed. Where would u find the center piece

An assembly line mistake is a possibility. I've seen a few over the years.
 
I thought that type tail trim is for sport satellite or GTX
 
I have a 70 Bird myself and was curious as to your issue. I can only find trim such as this on the GTX that I found online. A bit hard to tell from the pics if this could be a clue.

My uncles RR was missing the C trim on the rear and I thought also the center trunk trim. Turns out that the C trim was hard to find and that there is NO center trim on the trunk lid. Pop open the trunk, there is no holes for trim clips to pass thru.
 
So here is what the molding looks like with C corners as well. Looks like a 3 piece set. The moulding attachment holes are already drilled.

guys i might have a nice spare set of that rear Trim ... i'll look into it during this week, last i remember it was a nice set, throw me some offers to motivate me $$ ..
