Hello all the Power steering hookup on my 440 in my 73 RR doesn't look right the belt only has about 1/16 clearance from the fan pulley. Is there a spacer that goes behind the power steering pulley or is it just pressed on too far? .

Thanks

TAKE some measurements & look at it from more than one angle to see differences.. Make sure you have the right brackets & pulleys..
Ever heard of a spacer for the P/S pump but there's one for the water pump.& use washers to shim up the brackets.

Check out this web site ...they have pic's & sizes of the pulleys.....check out their pulley specification fit section....

Looks like the wrong setup for sure. Also looks like that pulley has a nut retaining it and it's not pressed on. The straight edge will tell you real quick if your out of alignment like Pops said.

Great thanks for the link, I'll take some measurements. The alternator lines up good. It seems like if the power steering pulley only needs to move forward a little maybe a shim will work .

Might try removing the pully and flipping it over? If it can be done? I thought they were all pressed on.

Must be the wrong brackets or the pump itself.

Make sure the power steering bracket is correctly attached .

Put spacer washers between the back of the pump reservoir and the rear bracket ( looks like 1/8 inch) and put the same thickness of spacer washers between the water pump housing mounting boss hole and the backside of the front bracket. This will space the pump and pulley forwards. Run a straight edge from the back (inside) edge of the PS pump pulley across to the front (outside) edge water pump pulley to get the exact thickness of the spacers you'll need. Always run your straight edge across the larger of the pulleys, it will be more accurate that way. There should be a difference of 1/16 inch maximum to allow for belt quiver and waiver when the belt stretches or you'll rub on the nose of the water pump pulley. Do not piss around with the pulley or try to space the pulley out, where it sits is where it belongs. It's hard to tell but if that's a Saginaw pump it's very easy to move the pump forward.
