I'm in Baltimore/Frederick MD area, need to ship a motor to Washington State. About a pallet sized, 800 lbs...what's the best place to look for motor freight rates or other good shipping ideas? it's in the factory crate, and I can drop it off at the terminal and have it delivered to a business with a forklift.

thanks!

Mike

Old Dominion,,,,look in yellow pages or google for competitive rates

Call your local Fastenal. They will ship between stores for a very reasonable cost.

crate 2.jpgI had my motor shipped from Boise Idaho to me in California.
My engine builder merely took it to the freight terminal in Boise and they took the crate out of his pickup with a forklift and I picked it up at the terminal in Fresno, CA and they put the crate into my pickup with their forklift.
After I got it home I took the "lid" off the crate and hooked my engine hoist and liftet the crate (with motor inside) out of my pickup and lowered it onto the driveway. I then unpacked the crate, hooked the motor up to a carb lifting plate and lowered it into my car.
Went real smooth.

I would have never thought about that. I'll have to find out where the stores are and give them a call.

thanks. I would have a hard pickup at my place, too low clearance for a truck, so delivery to the terminal is my most likely option. YRC Freight gave me a quote, I'll go look for Old Dominion. Did you ship with Oak Harbor Freight?

this.
i sent a hemi down south on a pallet, strapped down and then shrink wrapped.
got there fine and the customer was thrilled.

Forward Air. is another one to check with.
They will unload and wrap your motor and put it on a plane. Very fast and reasonable. Same as or cheaper than trucking it.

I like your pick up. Brings back many memories.
