I have 2 questions. 1) How hot do ballasts resistors get? 2) I converted to Mopar electronic ign, dist. chrome box and harness on my 440+6. I want to use an MSD 8222 hi vibration coil. What Ohm resistor should I be using? MSD says if you still have factory points dist. use MSD PN 8214 but they don't say which one to use for an electronic conversion. Was just hoping someone else was using the same combo. Thank you in advance for your help. Mike

Ballasts will put a blister on your finger right away if you touch it while running, I thought MSD's ran without a ballast?

OK, thanks. I feel better now because mine got pretty damn hot. You are correct, the MSD 6 & 7 boxes do NOT require a ballast. I'm not using an MSD box. I'm using Mopar Perf conversion kit but I want to use the MSD round canister coil and paint it black to look stock.

Should be ok but I'm no expert. Don't ever spray down engine/firewall with a warm/warmer ballast, it'll break.

I use the 0.8 ohm resistor that msd sells with the chrome box.

I have run the blaster 2 and 0.8 ohm BR for a long time now with no issues. the downside is that I have to mount it vertical on the inner apron since it's oil filled. This 8222 the OP is asking about looks like the same coil but potted, so it can be mounted horizontally.

I run the MP orange ECU box and the Acell Super Coil with NO ballast. Been that way for 2 years and still running great. Ron
