Fender gap

Hi all I have a 69 net. Freshly painted. The fender gap to inner fenders is about 1/2". Is there a gasket I should put in to take up this gap before running the fender bolts down?
 
If you're looking for adjustments to bring the fender in line with the other body panels, shims are the usual way to go. An assorted box is cheap.

Fender to inner fender? Pictures would help as stated.
 
1/4" was close, back in the day. Everything is over-restored, these days.
 
Your not gonna get them exact, Ma Mopar didn't build them that way. Go with it unless you cant live with it, then cut a strip of sturdy but flexible rubber to fill the gap and drill some holes along the offending edge to attach it to.
Never mind, I thought you were describing something else.

I've never seen shims under any fender to inner fender bolts except the one at the cowl.

Also the ones at the bottom of the dog leg, and those are just really thick washers.

I know- never say never, but I've removed a LOT of fenders from 66 all the way to 74.

What's usually there, is seam sealer.
 
gap to inner fender? tighten the fender front and back properly aligned with the hood....... the other bolts should pull the inner over to the fender
 
Yea, the mount holes on the fender line up with the inner fender holes perfect, and gap was set perfect by the painter, I never had the bolts for the rest of the fenders (project). So the inner fender will pull over to the fender when I tighten it up. Copy that. I will get pictures before I completely tighten down the fender. Last thing I want to do is buckle that beautiful body work. Thanks.
 
Here's pics. At the widest the gap is 7/8 wide. Cowl gap, door gap and hood gap is perfect. Will the inner fender flex over to the fender when I bolt it down? Thanks. Erik.

Mine do pull over to the fender edge when I tighten them up. I suggest you put the bolts in and tighten them in sequence a few turns at a time and watch closely to see what transpires. If they don't I expect you will have to get the fenders closer and then readjust the door. It's not only the gap that's important, get a long straight edge and look down the side of the fender/door/quarter and see if it is all on the same plane or not. If all is flat all along then I would suspect the car has been hit before or it got out of whack while being restored maybe? good luck and let us know.
 
Did you check the alignment of the panel surfaces first? I mean, the gaps could be right but the surfaces jacked in or out in relation to each other, and compounded as you move forward down the length of the body, thus accounting for the gap you see in the inner fender lining up.

Now I see the issue, the apron or inner fender can be persuaded with a few taps with a hammer. Go slow and it should line up. A little gap here and there is the factory way. I have a little on my 68 not a big deal for me. Unless you want to over restore as mentioned.
 
Not sure why the gaps were not set prior to blocking it out. That's when I would have been doing it. Set the gaps and assemble the nose, then prime, then block, then blow it apart to paint everything, then reassemble. You'll probably mess up the finish on the fenders by pulling them down like that.
